There is a big difference between making a mod (particularly for a single player game) in one's own time and implementing content into an MMO with budget restrictions, scheduling needs, QA standards and a whole bunch of legal overhead.

I'm not making this stuff up, it's stuff I've learned from interviews with the people making XIV. I've also seen mod creators back up the fact that making mods is not the same as developing for an MMO.

It's not me making it more complex than it needs to be, it's you assuming it's easier than it is.

    The game don't need collabs.

But the main reasons is aside of license and deals to be worked out, it takes away a lot of dev resources.
iirc Yoshida mentioned at some point a collab takes about a year to fit in.

Collabs are fairly meaningless to me, as I haven't played any other FF/SE games.

for a year, would you rather be secretly filmed at random moments and have the footage uploaded to your social media or loose $100 when ever you said a curse word?

Pretty much this. While I have played other FF games, I'm playing FFXIV to experience FFXIV. I want them to expand on the world and lore of 14, not shower me in nostalgia and fanservice, so I couldn't care less about more collabs.

I think they should "collab" with Final Fantasy VIII and give us some Edea / SeeD uniform / Selphie glam, with FFIV for a Rosa glam, and with FFII for a Minwu glam.

Billy making Sora's keyblade in grandma's basement over a week for Skyrim is not even remotely on the same level as adding it to FFXIV. It has been explained several times what is involved for a collab to work. That you don't understand is either you're not listening, or you don't understand what's being said: please educate yourself on how this works.

We have very metaphorically "Lead a horse to water but can't force it to drink".

More of a general FYI than as any kind of "pointed" response, but FFXIV has CONSTANT collabs here in Japan.

Like, just last month I could goto the local convenience store to get me some Warrior of Light fried chicken. I even got me some swanky fat cat AND namazu files out of it!

I mean, most Japanese don't really care about or play Final Fantasy. It's not Mickey Mouse big, but it would not be strange to find a T-shirt with Estenien on it at my local Uniqlo.\

On this, of course first and foremost your opinion is fine. My response isn't meant to be some kind of criticism towards you.

More, I wanted to let you know if you didn't already that a majority of FFXIV is nostalgia and fanservice to other FF games. It's certainly NOT necessary to play the old games, but you can get an appreciation for and even some additional depth of lore from the other games. So, I do encourage trying the old games out! Of course, you could just as easily read a WIKI if you were curious.

As an example, Ronka was a flying fortress. Essentially Studio Ghibli's Castle in the Sky.

Again, just soft pressure/recommends, but that’s all.

You get that the modern budget is 0. They got non. How they can make good looking costumes? What you need is talent. No budget help if you got non. I say it one more time as you people skip it. They don't need to rush nothing take the time and when they can do it . Easy.

Not sure if I would really call it fanservice.

All Final Fantasy games have recurring characters, locations or ideas to a certain extend. Be that Cid or Biggs and Wedge, primals like Alexander, Odin or Bahamut, locations like Ivalice and the Crystal Tower, ideas like Aether or the Warrior of Light.
Those have all been in one or more FF games in the past, the difference is that these are still integral parts to 14s world and story. They're integrated into the universe of this game in a way that makes sense, often with explanations on why they're here and what purpose they fulfill, expanding on what we know about the world.

Can you say the same about most of the collab events? NieR was basically explained with "they came from a different universe", same with the FFXI and the FFXV event, a lot of the other collab events don't even get that much.

This is what I mean when I say I couldn't care less about collab events, they aren't integrated into the lore, they don't tell us anything new about the planet of Hydaelyn, they purely exist to have us go through a 15 minute quest and give us some fanservice rewards.

I mean. Why would they? If they don't stand to gain something, what's the point?

To my knowledge/memory, this game already has more in game collab content than any other MMO I've played except probably Aion. I don't mind overmuch, and I've enjoyed most of it, but I'm definitely not clamouring for more of it. Even Nier, like... I liked the raids. I thought they were fun, and I like the glamour. But the story lost me halfway through the second part, and the series as a whole ate up far more in game real estate than I personally think it should've. Having it as the alliance raid was maybe the best way to tell the story they wanted to tell, but as cool as the zones were I still think there was room for some cool content that actually expanded on Norvrandt's lore instead.

I won't be upset if they add more collab stuff, but I also won't be upset if they don't. I'm still probably not going to play Monster Hunter, or Nier, or Garo (is that even a game? Literally do not know) or whatever, but I mean. I'm also not gonna complain about neat glamours. It's whatever to me.
