Idea to make DF raids less annoying for tanks.

Tank players are already rare enough, we'd just get another issue where everyone wants to queue as offtank so duty finder would be bottlenecked for main tanks, or everyone wants to be a main tank and nobody wants to be an offtank.

All you really have to do is check the other tank, if they have stance on or they pop stance then you let them main tank, if not then instead of standing around awkwardly you just pop your stance and do the pull

Ah but you see, this is a very specific style of post, where we seize upon one incredibly super minor inconvenience that we can pretend someone had and then propose a rework of multiple entire game systems so that a purely theoretical bad player can be less of an impact. Whether or not someone has a tank class leveled is largely irrelevant- you see, they're an off tank main, and we should get the game to recognize 'tank that doesn't tank' as a legitimate playstyle you see

Just assume you're the MT at all times. Problem solved. If someone else Provokes, but is standing with you, then it's not really a problem (Shirk your healer or DPS to drop yourself if in 24man). If they Provoke, but are with the group... you might need to give that player unsolicited advice that using Provoke on CD is bad play.

Why dont you simply just ask who wants to be Main and Off tank? Its an mmo after all communication is part of it.

If the do not respond, just assume they main tank. And keep an eye out whether they have enmity buff on or not.

So with my personal experience I can't recall this exact scenario ever happening to me. And I've mained Pld for nearly 4 years And run extreme fights in mentor roulettes on a daily basis. I also don't recall ever seeing anyone in the past ever complain about this being an issue (tanks provoking off each other yes but no awkward situation at the beginning)
As others have said, does the other tank have his stance on? Yes, you're Ot. No, you're Mt. If he wants to pull off you when you start then just drop tank stance and you're Ot now.

Also a major issue no one brought up yet with your suggestion. If the Ot can't provoke off the Mt and the Mt has to shirk, what about if the Mt DC's? Then there's no way to safely transfer aggro until he's actually fully DCed. and I'm fairly certain there's more DC's overall compared to this awkward situation of yours.
