Why do some people seem personally offended by people who have more than 1 character?

Whenever someone asks about alts...

They're the ones who always scream "why would you want more than one character???", "You don't need alts" (or if on Reddit downvote the post into oblivion), etc...

It seems like the idea actually offends them.

It's a valid question to most people I think asking it doesn't mean that you're offended.
And basically ANYTHING on the FFXIV reddit that isn't a meme gets downvoted to hell.

Even actual useful guides get downvoted I dunno what in the actual hell is wrong with people there but they've got serious issues.

Another solution would be to use Reddit as an information retrieval system, which is quite effective, and ignore the silly rabble.

Ditto Twitter, ditto most other social media. It's useful for information retrieval. Shoot a tweet at someone you need an answer from, then get one back. Find a strategy or solution to a problem or a work-around on Reddit. Great.

Mature humans can easily use social media to their advantage without getting sucked into the downward spirals of Reddit / Twitter / Instagram / Snapchat nonsense. Go there, get what you need and leave. Ignore all the thirteen-year-olds devolving discussions about video games into poltical / sexual / social / racial battlegrounds. That's easily noticeable and avoidable.

1) I create alts to see the actual animations of other race.
2) I create alts to play with friends that can't be in the same server with me. (pre datacenter travelling)
3) During 2.0 there's pretty much nothing do after capping tomes. A lot of us created alts to ease the boredom.

I like alts because I like having characters of various races in game.

Why would you want only one it's so boring? Expand your horizons with both races, servers and data centers Got to love I only have one character and it's all I need crowd.

Raiders who wanna do more weeklies without messing anyone's chests, ya know go a little up and beyond: Exist
People who dodge/cope with fantasia addiction by having few characters which look differen: Exist

Did not figure this out before, but I think I identify little with all of the above.

As for the alt thing... I played a alt for the first time recently to try and gain an appreciation for the game again, and it worked.

While newgame+ is nice, it never did it for me.
