I've seen better, but I still like it when you compare it to WoW's story.

“It’s good if you compare it to the only other MMO that bothered with story.”

What gimmick would make you even compare the two? LOU2 is and always will be a sh*t story and game. Nobody gave it a good review besides some weirdo outliers.

Ffxiv on the other hand sits with a crown on its head and is a genre that’s typically crapped on by everyone.

LOU2 could of been good but they tried some “Woke” bs and crashed hard. But go ahead tell me what exactly makes these two games alike…

    1) Swtor: Actually hard end game content, which relies on doing bosses actively instead of remembering patterns
    2) Blade and Soul: based on a book sold millions. Best wushu story to this date. Best pvp in mmo history
    3) ESO: story is not about always being hero, you can be bad [Thieves guild, Dark brotherhood etc]
    4) BDO: story through world building and ghost: best life skills systems
    5) Elsword: Best hardcore pvp you will find
    6) GW2: best story I have played in path of fire: best envio exploration
    7) AQ3D: funny puns and humour: still let’s you be evil, unlike ff14

Many others. Ff14 heavenward really was not that good, I am sorry. And people say it’s the best expansion. The story was boring. Corny, childish. Not believable, the MC did not react like me always running away like a coward, I had the same issue with SB so far. To many Dey’s ex machina for us surviving or us killing enemies. The hero, be a good guy is old, no one wants it anymore.

    - biggest issue I had: why we running, I can just end these people here on the spot. Made any moment that was supposed to be emotional, worthless because come on…. Hit them with a fireball /sword, they are dead lmao
Um... we didn't really run away from anyone in Heavensward at any point? Quite frankly most of our threats ran from us in Heavensward and its patches. Are you confusing it with Stormblood, with us running from Zenos on two occasions? Or with the end of Before the Fall, where we had an entire city's guards/soldiers on our tail, plus an "Eorzean Grand Company" made up of people of considerable skill and ability largely turned against us? In narrative, that was a hopeless situation; if we stayed and fought, narratively speaking we'd have eventually fallen. The Echo doesn't make us invincible; just ask Ysayle. Oh, right.

The Heavens' Ward fled from us. We had to back away from going to Azys Lla because we couldn't penetrate the shield without the key that Igeyorhm helped Thordan steal from us. Regula ran from us. The Warriors of Darkness fled after Thancred intervened. We didn't flee from Nidhogg, we bested the Warriors of Darkness, and Ilberd offed himself.

XIV has one of the best, if not the best story in the whole franchise...

FFXIV has a story line? I just thought my screen kept getting spammed with a bunch of text boxes that I have click off and ignore every ten ft. I wonder what else this game has.

I played a lot of other Final Fantasy's and a lot of gaming sites say that FF14 has one of the best stories in the franchise so I tried it out. This is an issue of the hype killing the game. FF14 has a good story but it's not as good as the hype makes it out to be so in the end I was disappointed. I can give you 50 games that had a better story than FF14.

The first issue is that there is too much filler in the story that adds next to nothing to the lore or the story. Having to play hide and seek with children is not interesting. Having to harvest vegetables as the freaking Warrior of Light is stupid. The game suffers from being an MMO by having to give you way too much filler.

The second issue is that the game can't be as immersive as modern story-driven games. The Last of Us 2 is capable of making you feel sad, angry, and horrified because the game is designed in a very immersive manner. FF14 makes you read the dialogues which isn't as immersive as modern story games.

The third issue is that even in world-ending, cataclysmic events, there is no sense of urgency. This is partially because FF14 isn't as immersive as single player games. It's also because there are way too many Mary Sue moments in the game where you expect someone to die but they miraculously survive. After a few Mary Sue moments you just don't expect anyone to die anymore. Because of that there is not much tension to be felt in the story.

I'm not saying the story is bad, but it's definitely not one of the best stories in a video game nor is it really even one of the better stories among the Final Fantasy franchise. I enjoyed FF14 and it does have a better story than WoW but I don't think it matches up to actual single player games at all. So I really don't get the hype and IMO people have just not played enough thought-provoking story games outside of FF14. Saying it has one of the best stories in video gaming history is an exaggeration at best.
I get where you're coming from-
    - However, comparing an MMO to a single player game- which single player games are always more personalized in terms of writing and playthrough experience, it is an unfair comparison vs an MMO. Any MMO in that regards.
If FFXIV had more of a "personalized" story, then there isn't as much wiggle room for other ideas surrounded elements of the games story, which helps keep the lore fun and interesting imho.
I don't know if single player story would ever work in an MMO- GW2 tried it, and even the writers argued against players setting "interpretations" in the story for their characters. It was a very firm "No, the story is not meant to be interpreted, what you see is how it is." And it kind of killed a large aspect for me, since none of what happened was something I care for.
FFXIV even jokes about fetch and filler quests quite often.
