The Last of Us 2 definitely made me feel horrified, that's for sure... Probably not for the same reason as you...
The second issue is that the game can't be as immersive as modern story-driven games. The Last of Us 2 is capable of making you feel sad, angry, and horrified because the game is designed in a very immersive manner. FF14 makes you read the dialogues which isn't as immersive as modern story games.
Interresting, coming from a person who seem to play a female lalafel, hardly Warrior material to begin with... without even what is remotely close to a normal name for a character in a game like this, complaing about the game not being immersive enough.. oh boy..
There's something very interesting about this thread and many folks impressions of the game...
They are all SUBJECTIVE.
While you might say "Its not a good game", I meanwhile am sininging its praises and to me it is the best Final Fantasy Ive played to date, and continue playing.
There's nothing wrong with that. It just didnt tickle YOUR fancy, and thats okay. Not everyone likes every game. But the real question is... Out of the overall majority who consider themselves Final Fantasy series fans, where does it rank among all the games released so far? Does the majority rank it in the high or low end? regardless of what the majority says though, every list or comparison will always be subjective to the person who sees it.
Enjoy it for what it is. Does it even need to be compared/ranked with the other titles?
Daily reminder that Lalafell are capable of throwing fully grown men around before even taking the Warrior of Light's freakish strength into account. It's also worth noting that even before getting a soul crystal, a lalafell WoL is just as capable of shattering rocks with a single swing of their axe or flexing hard enough to crack the ground around them as any other race. Same goes for any non-WoL lalafell that specializes in the more physical classes/Jobs.

I really only have two complaints about the story, now that I have finished it:
1) Thavnair really should have been pushed off until 7.0 and replaced with another region of Garlemald. I see the core of this story and its themes being most coherent between Sharlayan, Labyrinthos, the Moon, extending into Elpis and Ultima Thule. Garlemald also fits in as a thematic counterpart to Sharlayan as well as another tie-in to the moon. Everything that goes down in Thavnair is kind of irrelevant: the Vritra stuff was fairly independent of the rest of the story, and the Final Days could have begun literally anywhere else. Given how rushed and small Garlemald feels for having been a major threat, I think it would have been better served with two zones instead of Thavnair. This could have also conveniently given that infamous body-swap segment more time to breathe and settle in instead of immediately being reversed. The only reason I can think that they left Thavnair in was because they wanted to completely wrap up Ilsabard so 7.0 could take place on an entirely new continent/star/shard.
2) The writing really didn't stick the landing. If we are looking at Meteion as a kind of embodiment of hopelessness, they were setting it up extremely well. Garlemald - No external purpose or happiness afforded by religion or government. Elpis - No external purpose or happiness found anywhere else in the universe. Ultima Thule - Despair is inevitable, not peace, nor knowledge, nor immortality can change that. They had been systematically setting up the argument for nihilism, and clearly we were supposed to propose a counterargument to Meteion after the final battle. And the signalling is kind of there, with "it was on Etheirys all along" and "gathering bits of happiness". But it was so trite and fleeting and involved virtually no ideological grappling on Meteion's part. She just accepts it in two seconds, forgets a universe of centuries of total despair, and turns bubbly again. For wrapping up a long story with heavy themes, the metanoia was written to have virtually no weight.
8/10? I still give it a lot of points for being extremely ambitious and delving a lot deeper than the average RPG experience.

I personally have to say u definitely need to add for a mmorpg, so yes for a mmorpg ffxiv has a good story. I started ffxiv because there where all this people that stated it has the best story of all games.
So I started ffxiv with high expectations to find out it definitely has not the best story of the games I played, it probably is dead last in that list (but I like to play story heavy games) but it def has the best story of every mmorpg I played that’s no contest.
It just could be people who state it’s the best game story they ever played, don’t play other games which in effect makes there statement correct, but it def set’s up for disappointment if u expect the best story of all games, and have played some of the amazing story games available today.

All imo:
Compared to other MMO's - Yes, best story.
Compared to other FF's - No. Imo, this is one of the worst.
I think because the characters are pretty boring and only recently feels important when they became trusts and having more play in the game and story. In FF titles, you have a party of friends that fought together and did everything together, but it took XIV way too long to get to that point aka SHB. This makes your journey feel really lonely but they remedied some of that in HW and took off in SHB.
The cast itself is just...boring. Thancred, Yshtola and Urianger could retire now. I know everyone likes Mama Tola but she needs a rest. Eist, Twins and Cat man can still have character development, though but I really want a fresh crew now, hope we see it in 7.0.
That said, HW and SHB are my fave, I even like SB despite the pacing, the Steppes and Doma made it fun for me. Ala Mhigo liberation was poor. EW isn't good to me after level 83's trial I just don't care anymore. They hyped up Zodiark and it was a massive letdown and so was going to the moon.
I'm also sick of the Ascians and glad it's all over with.
I hated them since ARR so any time they showed up I just started skipping. They aren't interesting, neither is Zenos.
Speaking of Zenos, anyone else a little disappointed that Garlemeld was just that little bit? I was hoping there was more to it than that. All these years against your enemies and you're at peace in a day lol. This game suffers from pacing issues really bad. SB was the worst offender and they did it again here.
But yeah, just my 2c on it. I don't have to like the story if I like other stuff, it's definitely not why I sub.
Edit: Oh! One last thing: Please stop the long, drawn out "goodbye" speeches every time you are about to supposedly kill someone off only to bring them back, over and over and over again.
Just stop.

This indeed it really felt ingenuine and it’s the only cutscenes content I started skipping in ew

i play many mmorpg from wow, gw (both), swtor, pso2, eso, etc. even the long forgotten one like silkroad, rappelz, c9, to the old days of RO, lineage, etc
iam maybe a bit biased because iam into anime, tokusatsu and stuff, so i dont really care like detail writing or plothole anything like that
it may not winning the grammy awards but compare to other? i say this one is on the top. it just fun, straight forward and simple (kinda like pso2 which i like too)
