It's not about social acceptance, if your attraction is towards beings that cannot consent ( children, animals ), then you are the problem and should be removed from society. If someone has rapist thoughts they aren't told to go fantasize about it more and more.
These people shouldn't be patted on the back, attraction in this case is harmful, and can easily put innocent lives into danger and should remain stigmatized. They should absolutely not be allowed to be in the same space as children and be under surveillance.

It could be harmful, thoughts do not always lead to some committing the action. By keeping it stigmatized we as a society just make it harder for people to seek help because of that stigma especially when they may feeling coming forward would restrict their lives, employment, social ties etc . . .

I get where you are coming from, but in the end I just do not think we should punish people based around their thoughts I think we should give them a chance to be a part of society free from persecution. I am no doctor but I am sure at times people need outlets for their repressed feelings cause sooner or later they will come out one way or another. Question is what outlet is considered safest. Also if people are afraid to seek help due to the stigmatized nature of their disorder how does one expect them to get help? It is a catch 22.

You pretty much said there is no help for it, they shouldn't be allowed to coexist with children period, and that means restricting their lives. It's pure selfishness to think about themselves in this situation rather than the people whose life they could put in danger, and utterly ruin.

The attraction isn't really the issue, though. I'm attracted to women, but that doesn't mean I can't control myself around them. Most people are the same way regardless of what they're attracted to.

People who would hurt children or animals have a different issue that goes beyond what they're attracted to. People who are unstable and violent with no impulse control should be locked away, but it's not fair to assume everyone is like that.

Women can consent, children and animals never will be able to.

Is that a good reason to treat everyone who's attracted to them like a rapist?

No help in the sense that we can change who or what they find themselves attracted to but we can help them from acting on their impulses.

As you said key word is could, it is not a guarantee. The stimga makes it hard for people to seek help which in turn increase the potential for harm to be done.
