By the time I started playing these were already implemented so I've always wondered... What's the story behind the Replica Sky Pirate stuff anyway? What prompted the devs to just release a whole collection as level 1 All Classes gear and how do we get them to do so again?

I could see the YoRHa sets get the Replica treatment sooner or later, they're literally just clothes!

    I both agree and disagree.

I don't really think that swimwear etc is the same tho because that is more universal casual stuff, it's not '' gear '' in that same sense and you don't get it from dungeons and raids.
It's more like fluff that people can all still use.
Yes people can still mog it as a tank, but I don't think that it's the same thing as a healer for example getting Fending gear in a dungeon and then using it.

With that said tho I still kinda want this too because as a MNK I like to have my torso loose and then my arms and legs armored.
I kinda like that a lot visually but I do feel rather limited.
I really want more stuff for my MNK like Lyse's leg piece in her early Stormblood attire for example and tanks have basically all of that.
I'm struggling to phrase this right but... I think everyone having more freedom coming with the "risk" of someone out there maybe putting together a Glamour that doesn't make sense for their role (which... again, plenty do already) is not much of a debate in my opinion

I don't particularly care too much if it makes sense or not, I was just saying that I think stuff like swimwear is different than gear drops.
Because it's essentially cosmetic fluff and not '' canon '' if that makes sense.

The armor restrictions are all over the place.

For the most part tank/drg share looks, but then there are multiple situation where it is tank/melee, tank/nin, tank/ranged, caster, healer...

And that is not to mention all the gear that simply got no restrictions at all like a moogle costume.

Some of my favorite tank outfits are stuck with an obnoxious cape or tench coat while the ranged variant does not, why can't i use the aiming variant when it got the exact same amount of protection?

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but that's just not the aesthetic I want for my character.
It was someone with a female character that I was replying to in the first place, though.

Anyway I do think there are a number of different outfits that can work for male dancers as well, though perhaps not as many as for female. On the other hand there are some things that I can think of that would specifically work better on men – the Infantry shirt, Lakeland coat, Boulevardier shirt and the Dalmascan top*. Maybe others as well, but that's just what comes to mind.

    * (Sure, women look good in that one generally, but for dancewear specifically it seems hazardously loose.)

The fact that glamor is restricted to items you can currently equip on the job is likely connected to some code restriction that keeps them from expanding things out further, and unless they made all gear equippible by all classes, they may not be able to work around it.
Do you have citation on this? Any interview with Yoshida for Shadowbringers when it was upcoming and Hrothgar and Viera were announced he always explained it as a resource problem never a lore one. Unless you mean that Female Viera were chosen specifically because of their lore making them the only Viera ever seen in any game?

Before Viera and Hrothgar there were Miqo'te and Roegadyn, and even before those there were Mithra and Galka...

The person you quoted also said they were switching to male Viera come Endwalker, and would be looking at glamour options for male characters. Hence my comment.

I was more focusing on the gear sets you can get in exchange for tomes and tokens or the like. I tend to avoid casual wear as much as possible, and that makes it difficult to come up with glamours for a male DNC, precisely because there are less fitting options as soon as you move away from a casual look.

I'll always be an advocate for removing most glamour restrictions between race/job/gender. especially in the case of FF.

GW2 kinda showed me that there's really good way to introduce racially locked gear, and FF just doesn't compare in the slightest. The only armor sets that truly stand apart and hit almost the same level of visual nuance that I feel is required to make gear totally locked are the grand company and artifact sets. everything else should be fair game so long as you have the job to that level.

Narrowing to tome gear is overly limiting. Three of the four things I listed are fancy shirts, not modern casual at all. Dungeon and non-level-1 crafted gear is rarely casual, and even the level 1 gear is a mixture.

I never said anything about "modern" casual. From what I've seen, at least 2 of the pieces you listed are most often used to create a casual look overall, a.k.a. it's not armor and certainly not something you would actually wear on the road or in a fight. 1 of them I used when I was still a sprout in ARR, but now I want to use the shiny new stuff from the current expansion and for DNC it's just... not so good. Most of the dungeon gear can't even be dyed, and as I said, it either doesn't fit (coats don't work for me for example) or you have to deal with being half-naked.
