It's just as valid as everyone who comes in here and posts that they LIKE the game and are having a great experience.

I do agree with you on that one. But maybe it's because I feel like I see the same posts about quitting the game because of the ARR story more, and it feels kinda stale. I also feel like the posts about liking the game mention different aspects, and people share their experiences and opinions, so this results in a richer discussion. In posts like this, almost all answers are the same: It's ok if it's not for you. The game picks up after ARR. Skim through the dialogue or skip some of it (which I personally don't agree with). Etc.

Look, I understand that you may not have the patience for this game and its story, but this kind of thing doesn't exist.
Skip potion didn't exist in the first place I recall.

It's either you get into it or sadly not.

Not to mention that it actually does all matter in the end.
It might not seem like it's going to matter, but a lot of it comes back in the expansions.
Like I said before most of ARR is really world building and setup, and then the end is really good and kickstarts the '' main story ''.
But that world building and setup is really important and has actual payoff.

The notion that it's just intentional time-wasting to make people buy skips is silly.

Came here from WoW, bought the basic game, my 30 days is up today and I am taking a break.

I really love the professions, in ARR anyways, people say they changed things a lot in the future expansions. I could do nothing but the professions they are so perfect. Had every gathering and crafting profession to 50 and a million gil. It was fun.

But I just cant stand the main story quest. People keep saying how amazing the story is, just so many people keep saying that. I wish I could see why they say that, are they just parroting what other people say or do they really believe the story is great? To me its just suckfest of crap.

Gave up half way through ARR and bought the story skip from the store then just ground out the levels in Fates. Started next expansion story quest and just more of the same. Port to this place talk to a guy port another place talk to a guy, enough already.
Its very difficult to believe they are not making the story frustrating on purpose to get you to buy a skip.

Well I really like the game better than WoW otherwise. So maybe I will just take a break and come back once in awhile and try to get through the story quest. I know I have the option to buy more story skips but that feels like I am just paying a company for crap product.

Sorry for the rant. I know this is going to trigger some people, and I am sorry, because I really do love the game aside from that.

I personally wouldn't call FF14's story bad (ARR included), even compared to other games. I'm not being sarcastic but what other games did you mean? I wouldn't mind getting recommendations of games with good stories, preferably (J)RPGs.

Its ok if you dont like the story or larger parts of the game, if its not for you then thats fine, but dont tell ppl to try and change em into another game...

You realize that FFXIV ARR is another game because people told the developers the game was bad and they literally changed it into another game right? You are actively advocating against the exact thing that gave you a game you loved.

I'm not saying they should just do what the people ask them all the time. But feedback is invaluable that combined with educated and good game developers can result in really good things.

But.. They played after ARR supposedly. Unless they're still talking about the post ARR filler.. but I'd be surprised if that wasn't skipped by the pot. So their feedback , that would be unique or at least important for changing development is that while they don't enjoy the story itself, they're also not enjoying the part where you have to walk back and forth and grab this and that and give it to that other person (which while valid isn't really unique as far as MMO's go, especially from someone who came from WoW)

So.. yeah. If we're going to be positive, we should also embrace criticism, especially when presented reasonably.
We may not agree, but as long as it's not all hyperbole, it's useful feedback.

I don’t think it’d change the game for you that much if, say, the MSQ wasn’t mandatory for game progress.

If it matters that much offer the MSQ as an option that gives quick leveling, free gear, and extra Gil, which it pretty much offers anyway.

Not a huge fan of the story, either - particularly ARR's stuff. Other Final Fantasies have simply told more engaging tales with far less text. It does get significantly better in HW, though.

i wouldnt tell what you told about story o/ but doing brakes is good thing. im also not a fan of so many texts and usually /accidentally/ queue for something by that and when it pops i need to skip :c i mean, you can just skip everything about story if thats not for you. if you like the game, that only matters. and i know, why you should expect some story from mmorpg.
