I tried but its not the game for me

Came here from WoW, bought the basic game, my 30 days is up today and I am taking a break.

I really love the professions, in ARR anyways, people say they changed things a lot in the future expansions. I could do nothing but the professions they are so perfect. Had every gathering and crafting profession to 50 and a million gil. It was fun.

But I just cant stand the main story quest. People keep saying how amazing the story is, just so many people keep saying that. I wish I could see why they say that, are they just parroting what other people say or do they really believe the story is great? To me its just suckfest of crap.

Gave up half way through ARR and bought the story skip from the store then just ground out the levels in Fates. Started next expansion story quest and just more of the same. Port to this place talk to a guy port another place talk to a guy, enough already.
Its very difficult to believe they are not making the story frustrating on purpose to get you to buy a skip.

Well I really like the game better than WoW otherwise. So maybe I will just take a break and come back once in awhile and try to get through the story quest. I know I have the option to buy more story skips but that feels like I am just paying a company for crap product.

Sorry for the rant. I know this is going to trigger some people, and I am sorry, because I really do love the game aside from that.

I mean to be fair you gave up halfway through ARR by your own words and ARR isn't known for it's story. It's passable but that's it. Though in this case it seems you have more of a problem with how the story is delivered rather than the story itself. Still if you like the rest of the game but hate the story just zerg through it. It's your sub, play how you want.

Your mileage may vary. The first arc is generally agreed to be the least exciting but there is no getting past the writing style (every character is a goody two shoes, anime tropes, etc). If you want a more complicated, grey story like the Alliance vs Horde war arc in Cata and MoP, you won't find it here.

The game isn't a replacement MMO for WoW. It's a glorified singleplayer JRPG first with a light side of MMO. If you don't like the JRPG part then you probably shouldn't waste anymore time with FFXIV.

The story is something you can zerg through, just read cutscenes and 'you'll be fine, skip all other speech bubbles. It's also very much a filler > reward > filer > reward thing. But the payoffs are good. And like others said, if you think the game is good just plow through the story and play what you enjoy.

While a a fair amount of us do love the story and are invested in it it isn’t for everyone. There are a good chunk of people who skip through it and just enjoy the gameplay aspects of XIV. It’s a play how you want type of deal. I am glad you like the crafting and gathering aspects of it because that’s one of my favorite parts as well. Maybe one day you can slog through the story or bypass it completely to enjoy the components you do like.

People may want to argue with you but I think its fair. A lot of us already like FF games and so we give the game and devs the patience to expand their story and world. The story does, objectively get better, just look at reviews for the game from neutral sources like magazines and stuff that review thousands of games. However, stories aren't for everyone. You might love mass effect but hate dragon age, both of which were excellent story games.

If you do give it another chance don't buy into the hype, simply immerse yourself in the game and ignore what everyone says about it. But this game is simply a flavor, not everyone likes sushi, but I think we can objectively agree Sushi is considered a good form of food, even if it's not our thing.

For me the story was nothing more than average, but it's still the same old story, you're the hero and you have to save the world that is in peril, Only difference is, this story is far more detailed. I've already un-subbed after only three months, and it's almost all due to how much story there actually is.

This game is ideal for people that enjoy a plethora of cut scenes and reading with some combat sprinkled in, at least until end-game. This game isn't for everyone, and I guarantee you, you're not the only one that feels this way. The leveling process in this game is one of the worst I've experienced and that's not a hyperbolic statement on my part. The story is.....alright. It can basically be boiled down to go talk to Guy 1, Guy 1 sends you to talk to Guy 2, Guy 2 can't help you but he knows a Guy 3, Guy 3 sends you to a purple goop ring or blob and you fight 2-3 mobs, you go back to Guy 3 and he sends you back to Guy 1.

Literally every single MSQ in the game. I honestly just skip it and then just watch the cutscenes at an inn room when I get bored.

as with everything, not everyone likes what others do. I really enjoy the story, but ARR was definitely dragged out, but, could be a lot of reasons for that, either way, if you dont enjoy it, its not the end of the world. Games are entertainment, find a game you enjoy, thats the important part
