The one question that came to my mind when I read the title and the post is: Why did the OP feel the need to tell the whole forum about their decision? Imagine if every single person who decided to quit came to the forums to post about it. I don't mean to sound rude, but this is kinda something that doesn't really matter to the majority of people (as in it's not something that's related to them), especially since the post doesn't really say anything new. It's a universal fact that those who quit FF14 during ARR almost always give the same reason (and they usually get the same replies). It's nothing new.

I say this to all who are looking to quit before finishing ARR, whether due to the slow story or combat:

Skip most cutscenes (or just spam click through most dialogue). Try and watch the voiced cutscenes at least as those are usually pivotal plot points.

Try and get to Heavensward, as the game improves significantly from then on--the combat, the scale of the zones, and the story. I don't want to overhype the story much, but it's much more focused and better told than ARR, and this is when most players actually start caring about the characters.

If you don't like the game after HW, then for most people, this is simply not the game for them.

But yeah, as the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover. ARR is basically the surface level of the story.

Nothing wrong with that. FF isn't for everyone and that's fine. At least you tried it. Hope you find something more to your liking.

    It is common courtesy.

If you try a new restaurant and something ruins your meal, you let the manager know.

The developers would have great feedback and the game improves over time.

    I took no offense.

not sure about other mmo's as I have not spent a ton of time in the forums of games I do not play, but its very common to do so on the WoW forums.

Look, I understand that you may not have the patience for this game and its story, but this kind of thing doesn't exist.
Skip potion didn't exist in the first place I recall.

It's either you get into it or sadly not.

But if the post doesn't say anything new, I'd say it's not that helpful. The devs did try to improve the ARR experience by removing some tedious quests. There's also a reason HW is included in the free trial. In any case, good luck to you.

ARR is the starting point. Slow and steady is the approach the devs and story writers took to help new players learn the game. Once 50 in ARR msq it picks up sorta.

Here's the thing I started back on ps3 beta, so I know the time line between patches in ARR. The devs were doing a lot of balancing with jobs and even changing end game tome caps. I bet some folks forgot that it use to be a weekly 250 tome cap.... lol. I even bet most folks forgot how OP BRD was back in 2.0. It was so OP static groups would have 2 or 3 BRDs in their group for TP/MP management plus high dps. Up until the devs dropped the weapon damage down by 2 points....groups evened out after that.

I digress... Because of those reasons their was a lot of fetch quests added to msq to help fill in the gaps while the devs were still fixing a lot issues. The devs even added the Ninja job mid way in the patch cycle to also help fill in the gaps.

But once we got near HW ffxiv was really looking good. The devs finally ironed out most of the issues and it only got better after that.

I say look into the ARR story starting around patch 2.4 and on. Then go into HW. It may just surprise you.

It's just as valid as everyone who comes in here and posts that they LIKE the game and are having a great experience.

Full stop on that. IF it they would do anything it would be just changing this game into something different... so nope.

Its ok if you dont like the story or larger parts of the game, if its not for you then thats fine, but dont tell ppl to try and change em into another game...
