The New Sage Icon, Thoughts?

Wow that's actually kinda gross. I never noticed anything awry with the original sage icon, but I think I can empathize with the people wanting it changed now.

On a side note I find it funny how up in arms people about the change. Icons and design elements are changed all the time for reasons as benign as looking phallic or like a face (pareidolia), simply because it's distracting. Don't see anyone complaining in those cases, the former is often rather amusing to people. So I see no reason to insist it meets some arbitrary threshold of qualifying as a 'phobia' to warrant a change, if people are unsettled by it, that's good enough.

I think the problem here is, it was brought up by people that don’t even have the phobia, and a good chunk of people who actually do said it doesn’t bother them. Along with the fact we’ve had the leather worker icon since the beginning of time and no ones ever complained about it.This is a very common trend nowadays, of people who dont actually classify under whatever the topic may be about, making it a much bigger problem than it actually is.

Wasn't the impetus for this a thread on the JP side of the forums? I can't read Japanese, so I'm going to have to take your word for it.

As for the LTW icon, it doesn't strike me as particularly problematic, though I can obviously only speak for myself. The markings are decidedly angular and irregular, and read more like indents than holes at the scales the icon appears at. That at the very least would appear to distinguish it from more egregious examples.

That said, insofar as some people believe trypophobia to be more a memetic hazard than a 'phobia' per se, maybe it's best not to draw attention to other potential candidates

I will remind this as many times as it takes, the 'phobia' is trigger BY these irregular shapes. And it's not just holes either.

So, by definition, the LTW icon is much more likely to cause this kind of trigger.

From what little i was able to translate, what i got from it was the original poster did not have the phobia. They were bringing it up as a what if. Many of the comments i saw were people saying it wasnt really a big deal and others were people who had the phobia saying it was fine. If anyone else who can properly translate would like to weigh in that would be kewl.
