The New Sage Icon, Thoughts?

...and a large number of people are emotionally invested in the likes of McDonald's. I'm not here to police what people like or dislike, though I expect the respect in turn for people to agree to disagree rather than attack people for not blindly worshipping the development team for every last little gesture that they indulge in.

Some people will take such gestures at face value, others will be more sceptical. I think both stances are perfectly acceptable. Just like how some people will prefer the original icon, others are indifferent and yet more have a preference for the new one.

All different groups can co-exist, though personal attacks and insults need to be left at the door.

And clarifying that you in particular are not emotionally invested in it at all contributed to what I said? Or is this just a clarification to make sure that nobody makes the mistake of thinking that you, a player of FFXIV, might possibly be emotionally invested?

Absolutely none of that contributes to the point of my comment which was that there is no good reason for them to milk an icon change for positive PR when they are swimming in good PR at the moment which is a logical line of thought compared to a decision to lie, creating possible trouble in the future if exposed and fabricating a problem where there is none when it's been shown that the company can simply go "we decided to do this" and aside from the usual bellyaching about change (which is happening anyway), players wouldn't even blink.

Where businesses are concerned there is no such thing as too much good PR.

There is literally no reason for this thread to still be this active, half of it is arguments about the quality of the story (?!?!?) for whatever reason, completely baseless assumptions of the devs and other players intentions and pointless bickering about nothing. There is no reason this thread should be 43 pages long.

I agree. The thread should have died off many pages ago. Equally, though, when people fling insults and indulge in attempts at character assassination then it is fair for those in turn to push back against such abhorrent commentary.

It only went so far in my opinion because people can't help but make emotional responses to certain posters comments when it's the same arguments and fallacies used to hurt individuals or groups in real life as well, which just causes said posters to double down on whatever slippery slope fallacy, whataboutism or cliche they were pushing in the first place, and that just feedback loops on itself forever and ever.

Not speaking for any one here but that's just my observation, either way this thread was an absolute blast to post in :v

I already said my peace. Icons not that big of a deal, and if it can easily change to make some people happy. Cool. That all that needs to be said. Even if you don't like how the new icon looks. Is that really that big of a deal?

Wow that's actually kinda gross. I never noticed anything awry with the original sage icon, but I think I can empathize with the people wanting it changed now.

On a side note I find it funny how up in arms people about the change. Icons and design elements are changed all the time for reasons as benign as looking phallic or like a face (pareidolia), simply because it's distracting. Don't see anyone complaining in those cases, the former is often rather amusing to people. So I see no reason to insist it meets some arbitrary threshold of qualifying as a 'phobia' to warrant a change, if people are unsettled by it, that's good enough.

Find someone who was unsettled by 4 single holes, if anything it looks like thicker needles.
This is the same vein when twitch removed the term "blind playthrough" despite nobody who was actually blind thought it was necessary.
