They probably really changed it because they didn't like the design and used that reason to do so, to save face. I mean if it helps people I guess it's a win-win.

There's a reason companies don't generally take and act on individual requests from each of their millions of customers, despite the layman conception that "making all customers happy == more moneyz!"You asked what the benefit was for them to do this and I gave you one, even if it was a more cynical view on why they might have done it.
If a company sees a benefit in accommodating a request from paying customers that doesn't take a ton of work and doesn't impact their own vision too much, and might even earn them MORE money, then they will do it.
More news at 11, water is wet and the sky is blue.
You are severely overestimating the implication of this tiny, insignificant change.
People's expectation won't change. The majority of players is not even aware of this change.
And SE definitely are not trying to create any sort of new impression.
It's not a big enough deal for me to care about it.
The change is visible and known enough to create an impression on people.
I'm not saying this alone will change everyone's expectations, but actions like this are certainly a step in the wrong direction. If SE doesn't WANT to be a company that's expected to bend on whims, then they don't want to make a habit of this.
You mean like the war changes of 2.0? Or the ast changes of 3.0? Or the brd changes in 4.0?The change is visible and known enough to create an impression on people.

Or the Sam changes in 5.0?
There are many changes that have been made specifically for small groups, literally since the beginning.
They. Don't. Have. To.
They never have and never will act on every single individual request millions of players make, have a look around Reddit or the forum and you'll see plenty of requests that never saw the light of day.
You'll also see plenty of things they did add on the request of the playerbase, but those don't trigger this weird doomsday response for some reason.
Controlling expectations is a balancing act, and most of the changes SE makes are either based on things they wanted specifically or based on larger segments of the community. Companies generally don't take individual or small group requests because they don't want to be expected to.They. Don't. Have. To.

Also, no one said anything about Doomsday. I'm just saying that acquiescing these trivial requests from individuals or very small groups does more harm than good to SE. Both the harm and good they do are trivial, though; so I'm not worried this will ruin SE or something, I just don't see the point from SE's perspective.

I think the point, from SE’s perspective was that a group of their players was having an extremely adverse reaction to a class logo due to a phobia they have no control over and that it was something SE themselves could easily fix. Sometimes people have this thing called empathy which allows them to think about what it would feel like to be in someone else’s place which helps them react to those people’s feelings accordingly.
I hope that clears things up for you.
It was a trivial change for a (to you) trivial request.Controlling expectations is a balancing act, and most of the changes SE makes are either based on things they wanted specifically or based on larger segments of the community. Companies generally don't take individual or small group requests because they don't want to be expected to.

They're still free to ignore any and all feedback they don't deem worth the time or effort, and I'm sure they will.
