    It's an open pit because the city of Bozja was destroyed by an attack from Dalamud (that moon that features so prominently in the events of the Calamity, 10 years later) that literally vaporized the city and most of what surrounds it. All those happy villages and hamlets were wiped out in that single incident 15 years ago. Yup, it's a wasteland.

    I've enjoyed it, though it definitely had some things that could've been better. The zones are pretty ugly, though I think Zadnor is definitely the uglier of the two - and also the more barren and... open? I guess? Idk.

    The story had some parts that were... genuinely kind of terrible in a way that meant I stopped enjoying the story at all riiiight around Castrum, so I kinda stopped caring about it at all which sucked a little but. Eh. Still had a MUCH better experience in Bozja than I did the first time I stepped into Eureka day one (which I still have yet to go back to lmao).

    Unless the lore was well-known, set well in advance, and somehow too liked to be worth ret-conning, you'll almost always have the causation backwards here.

    The zone isn't barren because the city was destroyed; the city was "destroyed" so that the zone design could be barren.

    The concept almost always comes first, with the lore merely getting you there.

    The Cid questline does not necessitate that level of destruction. Look at anywhere else "nuked" by Dalamud; they tend to be more feature-laden than before, not reduced to featurelessness.

    The GNB questline, meanwhile, was introduced with ShB, when Bozja was already planned. The point stands.

    No, but they weren't leading anyone astray with bozja being a wasteland, as for dalamud, it kinda had bahamut in it at the time.

    It's been fun. I've enjoyed both Eureka and Bozja, I like the idea of open world zones for relic and special relic content designed just for it. Will it make everyone happy not but for me personally I spend a lot of time doing relic and would frankly be quite bored without it.

    And Bahamut being asleep in it is somehow more destructive than him adding to it all the explosive power of being very much awake?

    Again, look at the effect on Cartenau. Almost nothing. Look at the effect on the nearby regions. Aetheric interference and some debris. It didn't turn anything into a featureless grey that wasn't already featureless and grey.

    That Bozja is featureless and grey is because they wanted it to be featureless and grey. All precedents point elsewhere.

    (Yes, I realize there are some areas that actually retains some features and variance in color, more in keeping with all we see among other areas destroyed by Dalamud. I've obviously no issues with those areas. Tbh, nor do I have much issue with the rest; I just think it's backwards to think that the art team had no control over the setting and was instead solely applying the hand they were dealt by lore... that was mostly generated likely well after Bozja's concept was.)
