It's not as clear as it seems. For example, he mentioned that if they decided to terminate all accounts that use third party software, you'd have taken that risk if you decided to use ACT. This is never going to happen and is basically no risk. First he explains later that despite realizing people have asked him to be stricter on ToS, they're never going to scan your computer for third party software. Secondly it would result in a sizable loss of subs. He even admitted it's a complicated grey area.

The only clear thing was that he does not want dps bullying. That's simple enough, whether you use a parser or not, don't harass other players.

They dont allow any third party software. But on a PC, everything can be a third party software. ACT, Excel or Firefox. How do you ban someone who is watching the FFXIV livestream on youtube while doing some FATEs ingame?

They cant scan your computer. And they are not allowed to do that. So they cant tell, if you re using ACT or not.

They wont implement their own ACT, because they dont want that people going to harass each other just because of their damage numbers. And they also dont want mass reportings because of ACT now.


In conclusion:
If you re using ACT: keep it to yourself.
If you re not using ACT: live and let live.

This is the best stance to take 'use at your own risk' and don't use it to harass other people. That's super simple to understand. Because everyone in this thread knows there will be people who hold up those logs as a means of gating other people and harass them. Time and time again this is proven in many games. This is a fact. It's against TOS. As long as content is cleared it shouldn't matter.

I've done I don't know how many dungeons, trials and raids through DF and haven't seen it once, so from my pov people don't ever shame others for their logs

I don't need no stinkin' act to know how to bully people.

But man I dislike not knowing how well I'm doing unless I happen to end up in a party with a player using the tools that must not be named. It sucks when I'm doing my best, utilizing instant cast and off global heals to keep the party alive while dishing out pain in equal measures only for Suzy McHealsalot to start barking at me because I'm not spamming Succor off the rip.

The last time I saw someone get salty about logs in-game was almost two years ago, and I pug every tier. It happens plenty in private settings like discord, but most people aren't actually dumb enough to talk about it in game and tempt fate.

Well of course you will gate. (You already kinda do it with "already completed duty") If not, how will you pass the dps checks when one of the members is dishing dps numbers from previous expansion?
In xiv everyone just leaves the group pondering who did wrong. And it ain't helping chief. Bad players keep being bad (even if they want to improve) and keep joining other groups
