and time and time again people will be pearl clutching about how everyone that uses act uses it to bully and harass other players because they've seen it happen once (and half the time not even in xiv but in wow)
I've done I don't know how many dungeons, trials and raids through DF and haven't seen it once, so from my pov people don't ever shame others for their logs

The last time I saw someone get salty about logs in-game was almost two years ago, and I pug every tier. It happens plenty in private settings like discord, but most people aren't actually dumb enough to talk about it in game and tempt fate.

Well of course you will gate. (You already kinda do it with "already completed duty") If not, how will you pass the dps checks when one of the members is dishing dps numbers from previous expansion?
In xiv everyone just leaves the group pondering who did wrong. And it ain't helping chief. Bad players keep being bad (even if they want to improve) and keep joining other groups

Content gates players first, DPS checks are in the game, how do you propose players over come those?

no, I don't do savage raids, you're correct, and XIV is also the only MMO I've played and thus my expierence is only about this game's casual content, but that was the exact context of my post:
many of the posters who say that a DPS meter will be used for harassment and bullying are saying that it'll get used for just that in any kind of DF content, be it sastasha, steps of faith or eden normal, and in that context my post was made, as I've personally never seen someone cite DPS or logs to bully or talk down on another player in any kind of content I've done, aside from a tank doing it once (and it was neither harassment nor bullying, just the fact that both healers did not do ANY kind of damage)

plus, you can't compare savage raiding, where good, consistent dps are important, with "harassing and bullying players in casual content" that the pearl clutchers are talking about simply because they're two completely different things - one is endgame difficulty content, the other is easy to normal difficulty at best
projecting the experiences one had in other games onto XIV is weird, seeing as they're all completely different games with completely different playstyles and communities

I've read enough posts in the forum over the last seven years or so to know that there are players in this forum who are very concerned with the performance of other players, to the point of disparaging them as 'leeches', 'lazy', and the like. Of course if a DPS meter was available in-game this attitude would carry over into the game. It's 'official' then, and you can show the numbers to prove it.

What you do in the privacy of your gaming area on your computer or console with programs that might run concurrently is your own concern. Don't mention it and don't use it to harass others.

SE does not want to take the chance that such bullying and harassment would occur. Ergo, as they've stated numerous times, they will not provide such a tool in-game.

Accept that reality and you'll be fine, whatever you choose.

Goodness. What exactly do you call a tank or dps that does nothing besides avoiding AoE and basic attacking the boss? Tell me so that I learn from the "better" person that you are for not calling them leeches.
