Yeah.. It's fascinating how awful this game actually plays. I get that it's only Beta, but wow... I'm sure LOTRO players are now glad that a potential new mmo was canceled. It's nothing short of comical that a company this huge can create something like this.

It's almost like you can't buy game development experience with money.

    2. The next I think is possible. In New World you basically do not have to switch jobs to be able to gather stone or chop a tree. So my suggestion is make so that if I have mining maxxed out or unlocked then I do not need to swap to my miner.
That's one of the things I miss from WoW, being able to easily gather things while out doing dailies or whatever. At least being able to see the nodes while on another job would be nice.

I think you can, I just think that - at some level - the Amazon software team's management is completely incompetent.

I mean, you can drive a truck of money up to 'big' names in any industry and recruit them - you absolutely can put together an all star team. The question is: has Amazon actually ever done such a thing (or was the software team 'Bezos'd' from the start, and was basically a bunch of college grads with no experience and no salary command [which wouldn't surprise me])... and, if they did, how could they so horrifically mismanage said talent to the point where a) they had to just drop a lucrative project like a new LOTR MMORPG, and b) their supposed flagship game, New World, is basically DOA?

What I meant is, that you can't just hire some rando from college that made a cute lil game on their first RPG maker and expect them to make an MMO, no matter how much money you give the project.

This simply will never happen with FFXIV, the sheer amount of players would overload quickly a fully open-world zone (FFXIV 1.0 tried 'seemless' open world areas and well, we all know how that turned out).

Also it's clear that it will be very highly unlikely SE will make another FF MMO for pragmatic reasons - MMOs are considered a dying genre with so many opening with high hopes, only to very quickly die and shut down. In a global pandemic where FFXIV is making enormous amounts for SE, and is topping player numbers the game has never seen (even the huge amounts at launch are nothing like the player populations we're getting now), they're not going to gamble with such an investment where they can simply keep developing FFXIV for much much less. They're running two MMOs already which are making lots of money for them, they're not going to stretch development resources further just to make the graphics prettier with a new MMO, that's just being realistic.

So I could be in my Paladin build and see Botany or Mining nodes and when you click them you would swap to your mining layout for abilities. Since Job crystals are not required I think this might more possible
This is actually a fundamental part of the game since the original 1.0 version of the game, how crafting and gathering are tied to the game's Armoury System, with the idea being that those who wanted to pursue less martial and violent paths could still have a 'class' and actual gameplay, rather than simply repeating FFXI's gathering system which was ensure you had hatchets or whatever in your inventory, target the node and press X to get the item (or not).

1.0's FFXIV website actually described the Armoury System in that way - in that an adventurer might spend some time beating up monsters, and needs a break, so he then replaces his sword with a hatchet and starts milling timber at the nearest treee, or then picks up a pickaxe and starts mining ore, etc etc (greatly paraphrased).

Yes it means more clases to level, but really, given how EXP is thrown around like candy in this game, it is not that hard to level BTN or MNR really. And setting up the Armoury Chest to automatically switch classes to a gatherer from your 'main' is a no brainer (that's why you get an Armoury Chest slot with every new class you unlock).

I like how this game looks overall, but its age is definitely beginning to show... particularly in the ultra 'clean' world/city design, the tiny original zones, very basic looking foliage/water/lighting, etc. Without a facelift, FFXIV will gradually become like LOTRO - a game that also had a really interesting 'core,' but just wore out graphically.
WoW might've updated the character models and the new zones look different, but more than half of the game looks like it doesn't belong together now, I don't see how that's desirable whatsoever.

I'd rather not see FFXIV avoid updating the character models and game's textures because there might be a difference between the quality/look of game zones and textures made a decade or more ago compared to those made in more recent times.

Especially when that's already the case. Compare the quality of the textures of a furniture item such as the pixie apple basket to those of the bearskin rug, for example - it's a difference akin to night and day.

Well, we are no longer bound by ps3 limitations after all
