WoW might've updated the character models and the new zones look different, but more than half of the game looks like it doesn't belong together now, I don't see how that's desirable whatsoever. The problem is that this game really hasn't been receiving the incremental visual updates that Blizzard applied to WoW. So while WoW (somewhat) kept pace with newer games by gradually evolving into a fresh visual experience, FFXIV looks basically the same as the day it launched.
I like how this game looks overall, but its age is definitely beginning to show... particularly in the ultra 'clean' world/city design, the tiny original zones, very basic looking foliage/water/lighting, etc. Without a facelift, FFXIV will gradually become like LOTRO - a game that also had a really interesting 'core,' but just wore out graphically.
I'd rather not see FFXIV avoid updating the character models and game's textures because there might be a difference between the quality/look of game zones and textures made a decade or more ago compared to those made in more recent times.
Especially when that's already the case. Compare the quality of the textures of a furniture item such as the pixie apple basket to those of the bearskin rug, for example - it's a difference akin to night and day.
Well, we are no longer bound by ps3 limitations after allI'd rather not see FFXIV avoid updating the character models and game's textures because there might be a difference between the quality/look of game zones and textures made a decade or more ago compared to those made in more recent times.
