Maybe the vibe that it's not a game feature because it's not in a sense action-able, by that I mean I could emote drink something, heck I could drink something with a fermented description, but none of it is going to give a sense of actually drinking (at least given the context that I'm used to more tactile response to such action and now it feels 'empty', therefore 'not drinking' only pantomiming it). It's not like WoW is the only one here, since it's very common, and fairly popular, but drinking often would give a buzzed effect - blurry vision, etc. Stocking taverns and inns with 'action-able' drink I think would change the perspective massively.

One might argue on the word action-able and I'm thinking of a better name lol, but that's the issue in general I feel with FFXIV roleplay elements is they're not always 'not there' but certainly frequently there is a lack of tangibility to the "action". Do.. something... Show me what would happen. IF I've boots that say they've got rockets strapped to them.. Give.. Me.. The Rocket!.. lol. Or more in FFXIV sense, if I've a shield that is a lantern then make it a light source. Subtle things like plopping a campfire gives you warmth buff, or adds some function that adds a general sense of 'I've got a camp fire going' (restoration, buff, cooking, whatever), that adds an element of traction to the action that some games do well but imo FFXIV does not really (comment on a specific thing, not FFXIV as a whole, which is good). Like to me, going into jobs, Dragoon takes more fall damage than Ninja, equal to other jobs, it's just a big LOL? Where that extra step of traction was just not taken, for whatever reason. They're minor details, one much rather, if given only one (or false choice fallacy), would choose better gameplay over tiny details, but I do miss the tiny details in some situations where it's like "...hmm.. rubbing my fingers together and I feel nothing, where's the friction on my finger tips and little ridges".

Feels good, imo, when there is effort to put traction, friction, into the little things (aiming for fun things particularly, less so if it's simply to be painful lol).

I do get what you're saying, I remember a quest in Red Dead Redemption 2 where you get drunk at the bar with your mate, it's one of the most fun quests in the game. FFXIV is quite a simple game though, by MMO standards. Weather is cosmetic only except for fishing etc.... even the classes themselves, BLM has less spells in this game than FFXI's version has fire spells alone, and it has the whole elemental wheel thing going on.

I guess what I'm saying is I don't think being drunk in the game is harmful or anything but most things don't effect our character, alcohol is just somewhere on the massive list so I'm not surprised and I don't really have a problem with it, personally.

Gambling is extremely addictive and harmful to many millions of people. Having know both drug addicts and gambling addicts I would argue gambling is much worse. Simply because it's legal, advertised everywhere and half the population don't seem to realize how hard it grips some people.

Once again does not answer the question, why just because some people do not understand self control should we view the practice of drinking and gambling as inherently negative?

Trust me I have seen the depths people go through when it comes to gambling my father was a professional gambler (worked on Wallstreet as a broker and hedge fund manger) despite he countless pleas and warnings that never invest what you are not comfortable with losing many friends and family members lost everything gambling on the market because they did not take the time to understand the game they were playing or have addictive personalities.

I am sorry if people have addictive personalities or do not take the time to understand the risks and rules associated with the whatever means of gambling they choose that is 100% on them. If some parent does not monitor their child's habits with the games they play that is also on them CC offer many alerts and tools regarding spending people should use them.

In short just because some people are impacted negatively by their actions does not mean they are inherently wrong. They do provide people with great enjoyment, happiness, and sometimes wealth.
