Harassment to Asmongold on his 1st day stream is an Embarassment to FF Community

Not particularly. I highly doubt much of the FFFXIV community follows Asmongold on Twitch. I don't, because I don't care.

I highly doubt it was front page news on the FFXIV Launcher screen that Asmongold was going to be appearing, live on Twitch, with a new character on Cactuar. At least I don't remember reading that before clicking on the Play button.

To the point about those players with "Ultimate gear and mounts" being present: I was playing both WoW and FFXIV concurrently for almost four years, so it is not foreign to my mind that a number of current-and-past WoW players who are fans of Asmongold and enjoy high-end raiding and testing themselves to the limit were also doing so in FFXIV.

I suspect that any time a major Twitch Idol [I think the description fits, right?] appears in a new game, they are greeted by fans and paparazzi. That is the community that greeted Asmongold, not the "FFXIV community".

He brings people and attention to the game on Twitch, he was even trending on Twitter I hear.

Square Enix certainly thinks it's a serious plattform given the recent European event they running.

That's valid but those people don't visit the forums or reddit but those who do lurk here and on reddit and being negative nancy and think world if coming to an end, is end of the day giving the community a bad name. I have never claimed (and if I have come across that way I'm sorry for my poor choice of words but english is also my 3rd language) the whole community hates the guy and don't welcome him but the vocal minority is the face out to people who don't play this game.

I don't like blaming the victim, but we should be realistic.. of course this was going to happen.

Look, players generally love the FFXIV developers but, despite that, players still created a similar issue during the last Fanfest when the developers toured specific zones. Some people just like being front and center during an event.

My understanding is that this particular streamer repeatedly stressed, beforehand, that he was looking for an authentic new-player experience and just wanted to play the game. And yet, at the same time he made a point of advertising when and where he would arrive. You can't do that as a celebrity figure and not expect your more rabid fans, your opposition, and spotlight-lovers to show up in droves. And comments from this streamer yesterday make it pretty clear that he was used to this sort of chaos happening.

So, there seems to be a disconnect between what he was telling everyone he wanted (an authentic new-player experience where he can just play the game) and the zoo-like atmosphere he helped set the stage for. What he received was certainly not an "authentic" new-player experience.. most new players don't make public announcements weeks in advance letting the world know when they plan to try out a game. Most new players don't try to turn that experience into an event. If this streamer really just wanted an authentic experience away from the hype, then he would have just quietly tried the game at some point while the cameras were off.

Let's be honest.. this is a business for him, and financially all of this circus was likely good for his business. Sadly, it was likely not good for FFXIV, as potential players sitting on the fence who watched his initial experience (riddled with issues brought on by the masses trying to be part of the event he created) were likely put off by the problems they saw here. And I'm sure it was annoying for the players on that server who just wanted to play the game but couldn't do so easily because of the congestion.

And maybe the developers should take steps towards streamers to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future. However, the truth is there has been plenty of new players streaming their new-player experiences lately, and they've managed to do so without fostering a circus-like environment. People will likely say it's because they don't have the public following this particular fellow has, and there is merit in that argument. But I think it's also, in part, due to those other streamers making a point of creating a more positive atmosphere around them.

Let's be fair, this would happen to any well know/popular person in general, it just has a bigger effect on this person (and I only knew asmon not even fro. WoW but from a video of him reacting to a Dark Souls speedrun lol)

[Also in terms of popular stuff, there is a Vtuber named Ina from Hololive that likes playing ff14 but will never stream pretty much because it would create lots of gathering, congestion and all and she wants to avoid that.]


Regardless of all that, he seems to be enjoying so far so doesn't matter, I feel only bad for the World DC he's in since people that actually wanna play would have been struggling

Who is Asmongold anyway?

As far as i understand he is supposed to be some kind of wow famous player thanks to the guild where he was in witch made a lot of server or world first kills on some raid bosses. But plz dont ask for details, i don't care about this kind of stuff and i only heard about him while reading a comment section of a wow related article.

Can you guys plz stop makeing a new topic about this strange asmogold every second day? I guess most ff14 players dont even know him and dont even care what he does or does not. If he comes here to enjoy the game its fine, if he makes some stream about it like a lot of others do its also fine, but stop threating this guy like some kind of celebrity or god just because he honors us with his exsistence. At the end of the day he is nothing more than just another player.

Sry if i dont share your opinion but for me most streamers (and this includes this guy) are nothing more than some kind of leechers which live the easy life and let other people pay for the stuff while most of the people have to do a real job to earn their money. So as you can guess i dont have the highest opinion about these kind of people and thats why i dont care if someone has 10k, 100k or 1million viewers or followers. They play the same game as you and me and are just another fish in the big sea of players and not someone special just because they have a few ppl which watch their stuff.
