Harassment to Asmongold on his 1st day stream is an Embarassment to FF Community

I've seen an overwhelming majority of people in the community across all forms of social media as well as in-game rebuking the actions of the gatekeeping minority and his fans that were clogging up the screen and impeding his progress. People are taking an issue with a broad brush stroke being painted across the entire player base because of some misinformed no-lifers with a vendetta against him.

Is this community perfect? No. You'll not find an online community that is "perfect" anywhere, the constantly shifting and changing paradigm of what is considered socially acceptable rapidly changes on the internet sometimes overnight. Some people go with the flow, and others go against it. Having played MMOs for nearly two decades now, I can safely say that the XIV community is one of the nicer ones I have been a part of, and I'm proud of that - so I put kindness back into the community when I can by helping sprouts and offering advice when needed to hopefully pay it forward. Not everyone is going to have a great time, because as I said the community is not perfect, which is just the sad truth of the matter when it comes to online games.

While I won't see the actions of a few outliers and declare the entire community at fault, what I will do is express my disappointment with the way the GMs handled the situation when he sent in the report. An automated message in front of 200k people doesn't exactly sit right with me.

Being in EU I didn't watch it live. Did Asmon submit a report against the griefers?

Can you guys plz stop makeing a new topic about this strange asmogold every second day? I guess most ff14 players dont even know him and dont even care what he does or does not. If he comes here to enjoy the game its fine, if he makes some stream about it like a lot of others its also fine, but stop threating this guy like some kind of celebrity or god just because he honors us with his exsistence. At the end of the day he is nothing more than just another player.

Unfortunately it was an automated response asking him to reply with the names of those involved, the time of the incident, etc etc. Someone in a friend group of mine who is a fan of Asmon and was there to cheer him on (and not jump on top of him obnoxiously) claimed that there were more people there supporting him and began to take reporting the harassers into their own hands. You could see this when there were people lined up on the sides of the road anticipating his run to turn in the quest to unlock Sastasha.

Contrary to what people want to believe, the community still came together and reported the trolls in a manner that I would expect them to based on what I've seen. Reminded me of the times I've seen whole raid groups go after someone who was being rude to a sprout after a mistake.

Funny how this work: when something bad happen in that other game is the whole community doing it, when something similar happen here is just a few and they don't represent the majority.

That's good to hear. I just watched a 2 hour highlights that didn't show the reporting part but seeing the obnoxious toxic players swarming him and griefing by killing mobs, stand on npc etc to make the gaming experiencing void was really disappointing to see.

I highly doubt it was front page news on the FFXIV Launcher screen that Asmongold was going to be appearing, live on Twitch, with a new character on Cactuar. At least I don't remember reading that before clicking on the Play button.

To the point about those players with "Ultimate gear and mounts" being present: I was playing both WoW and FFXIV concurrently for almost four years, so it is not foreign to my mind that a number of current-and-past WoW players who are fans of Asmongold and enjoy high-end raiding and testing themselves to the limit were also doing so in FFXIV.

I suspect that any time a major Twitch Idol [I think the description fits, right?] appears in a new game, they are greeted by fans and paparazzi. That is the community that greeted Asmongold, not the "FFXIV community".

No one claimed Asmonhold is a Twitch Idol, your words not mine.
I think most people who are online and play this game and been for awhile has heard of Asmongold, especially if you follow some of the bigger content creators for 14, such as ZeplaHQ.

Despite your claim "don't care" you are pretty vocal here about it and know a lot about it, and Asmongold streaming the game is a good thing, we had over 200k viewers on Twitch yesterday where 95% was in Asmongold's stream. He brings people and attention to the game on Twitch, he was even trending on Twitter I hear.

This is no small feat.
