While part of me is curious to experience the 1.X storyline leading up to Bahamut, I don't think it's worth the team's time to do so.
Classic WoW brought MMOs to a new level of popularity and accessibility. Love it or hate it, whether you think it's still good today or aged poorly, it had a large impact, was popular, and well received.
1.0 was a disaster, and while I'm sure not without its redeeming qualities, doesn't have people clamoring for it like Classic WoW did.
Nostalgia runs rampant, and blind. Rose-tinted glasses are useless.
Original FFXIV was an abject failure. Original WoW made lots of money.
If you were the CEO of a major corporation, which one would you fund for a "classic" version to be produced?
I would not support the time and money necessary for development of "classic" FFXIV 1.0.
You want to experience the wonder? Go to youtube.com and type "FFXIV 1.0" into the search bar. Happy reminiscing.
*sighs* No, just, no.
As much as people may have enjoyed certain aspects of 1.0, especially after all the hotfixes and patches; 1.0 could never have a future in it's own right or stand on it's own legs. It's why A Realm Reborn happened in the first place, because the core tenants and philosophies were so flawed, despite how hard the individual devs who worked on each moving part; when it all came together it was a absolute disaster.
The 1.0 experience isn't anything even remotely close to what the WoW vanilla experience was, WoW was a huge success and it didn't have to be recreated from the ground up.

As someone else who did the 1.0 era stuff... no, no it wouldn't be a good idea.
1.0 was a long, long series of good-sounding ideas implemented extremely poorly. A ton of accessory slots, but different ones had different costs and you had a limited number of points! Market wards where you can see other peoples' retainers and even rent stalls to promote your goods! The ability to set nearly any skill or trait from any class onto any other! You can do the main story questline as any job -- including DoH and DoL!
Those all sound cool, huh? It was a mess. An absolute mess. Not to say none of the 1.0 era ideas are unworkable, but the majority were so poor that the whole thing really was better off nuked.
If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.
FOR DOCKHAND!
Remember that hour-long video about "why the fatigue system is good?"As someone else who did the 1.0 era stuff... no, no it wouldn't be a good idea.

The only thing worse than the game itself were the defenders.
You want to experience 1.0 pre 1.23 patch? Stick a heat gun into your pc while you play. Let it melt your components from the inside. Then you can say that you experienced the true 1.0 nightmare (aside from the world as it was before 2.0). Cause that's what you want. And that's EXACTLY what it did.I personally would love to experience the 1.0 storyline. I am not saying it needs to be a completely separate mode, but I wouldn't mind it being folded into the New Game + with a Classic 1.0 option.
Not sure how it would work at all but would be cool to experience it.
I get what they were going for with it. It's there to encourage you to switch classes regularly so you have a variety of abilities to set, and it closes the gap between the hardcore players and those who don't play more than a couple hours per week. But GOD was that system terrible. It was vague, it felt incredibly punishing, its tuning was godawful, and it honestly only succeeded at making people not want to play at all.
If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.
FOR DOCKHAND!
1.0 no
2.0 no, because I would miss my Au Ra
3.0 maybe
But to be honest, I dont want to start all over again. So, I m gonna stick with the non-classic option.
I wonder how long the "classic" servers of WoW still be "classic". It got its first Add-On already. 10 years later, BfA will be added to the "classic" servers
- Queen of Heal 2022 -
If it's under the same account with no additional fees, I don't mind checking any older iteration of FFXIV before I played, so anything before 3.5.
But I would prefer SE focusing on the future of FFXIV rather than its past.
