I will never understand why people watch other people play video games.
I will never understand why people are "fans" of people who play video games.
And of all the streamers out there, I will never understand why people like Asmongold.
Seriously, find something more productive to do.

This is going to come off way more snarky than I intend, so I apologize in advance if it does.

You not understanding why people enjoy X does not necessarily make X a waste of time.

Or, “your fun is wrong!” is not a recommended avenue of “attack”.

If you genuinely don’t really understand it, I would say in my case there are many games I would like to play for the story, but either I can’t afford it or I don’t have the system. It is also fun to hear the commentary from a bigger fan than me. I only have a passing knowledge of the God of War series for example, but it was fun to watch a player go through the fantastic story and gush/explain things I just wouldn’t have noticed.

Similarly I have no interest in playing the 5 nights at freddy’s series, but it is very interesting to hear how complex the story is and how much analysis people have done trying to figure it out.

Best part is I can enjoy this while playing entirely different games that I can relax and vibe to.

Either way, do hope that he gets a pleasant experience even if ffxiv does have it's shortcomings. Especially in the start.

Yep, exactly this. I don't like the guy, never really have, but it's not really about him. It's about the message he's sending. Blizzard should be very concerned, though I think it's if/when Taliesen and Evitel turn against them that they should start sounding the alarms. I've never seen such loyal supporters as them. They seem to spin every misstep on behalf of the company and/or dev team into something positive. I'd wager some of that is because Blizzard supports them directly, but they genuinely seem to love the game regardless of what happens.

I don't find Taliesen and Evitel genuine at all. I'm not saying everything that they say is a lie, but personally I always got the impression that they give WoW far more praise on camera than they would in private. It's their job to like WoW and promote it. Of course they're going to do that. I have tried to watch them many times and each time I didn't feel like they agreed with all the things they said. It was cringey to me.

I am on the fence about Asmon. I think he is very abrasive at times but I respect his honesty. If something is crap he'll say it's crap. If something is great he'll say it's great.

Like I said though, if that were to change...it'd be quite a plot twist. I will definitely be keeping my eye on their videos a bit more closely. The other shoe is going to drop. Asmongold has made that very clear. I just don't know who, what or where that will be. I've got a feeling though that the reckoning I've been hoping for is on the horizon. Things will either get worse before they get better, or they will just get worse. Time will tell. I'm obviously hoping that things get better but I'm not expecting it.

With the current decision makers I don't have faith that WoW will recover. I'm jaded because I tried to believe them again and again, and I was mostly met with disappointment.

Many factors lead to this situation. I think Ion is a problem. He is excellent at raid design but it's painfully obvious that this is all he cares for. It's the only content that is consistently decent. I don't think he should be removed from WoW, I think he should focus on what he does best and let someone else lead WoW's development. Activision's business practices leave much to be desired. One year they removed 800 Blizzard staff and then boasted about record profits for Blizzard that year. It was disgusting. Their scummy business practices have leaked into classic which has upset a huge amount of players, including Asmon. I honestly think Activision intend to milk WoW dry and don't care much that the playerbase's recent activity is a major red flag. They make most of their money with microtransactions, and they have other games that take full advantage of it.

WoW needs a Yoshida. I don't mean that WoW should turn into FF. Yoshida made the devs play other mmorpgs to learn about why those other games were successful. He also opened clear and regular communications with the playerbase and listened to their feedback. The decision makers among the WoW devs are not doing anything like that at all. They're stuck in this mindset that they assume that whatever half-baked thing they release will be a success...not unlike how the 1.0 team handled FFXIV. The only saving grace WoW has is that at its core it's still a great game, unlike 1.0 FFXIV. WoW doesn't need to be scrapped to be saved, it just needs a change in management. But I'm not expecting this to happen. I hope it will but if the past is any indication...well then I think we'll see WoW truly die within the next two expansions.

I'm interested in how Asmon will handle FFXIV but the person I'm truly watching is Bellular. He's a very respected WoW content creator and he very eloquently challenges Blizzard's decisions...and he is rapidly becoming a big fan of FFXIV. Many people in his team have already played a lot of FFXIV, including his co-host who has done Shadowbringers. Another big name who has high praise for FFXIV is Jesse Cox, who I would argue is an even bigger name in gaming than Asmon and Bellular.

And to quote TotalBiscuit: "the only thing that will kill WoW is itself". We are watching that happen right now. But it's not too late to save it.

Asmon is cool to me. A lot of people are jealous they couldn't muster that kind of popularity with a dirty computer room and his personality. The issue with XIV is there isn't a regular streamer at his level.

The best time I had watching him was during the WoW classic closed beta. Seeing him go through the leveling experience, getting guild followers, to the first end-game. Sure there are people ready to throw themselves at him on a whim, but if he makes them happy to play the game, there is nothing wrong with that. Can't wait for people to get mad when he's clearing content much easier than them, simply because the "help" will be available and ready.

I've seen a bunch of people that come from wow accepted warmly in our NN so no idea what are you talking about.

So a heavy-endgame focused streamer that has already said he doesnt like FF14 previously and isnt big on story-telling....is giving FF14 a try?

If he makes it to Heavensward, its a miracle.

From reactions to FFXIV trailers he seems to be a big fan of dragons so he just might.

The saga of one of the Olympus guilds being held hostage was probably the first time I sat down to actually watch his stream. Absolutely gripping from beginning to end.

Its a rule of thumb here. When you disagree with someone, just frame them as an alt of someone else. Just like how you're an MPK alt trying to shift it on our glorious Titenmen.
