Heck, as often as we speak about this strange and mystical unified hivemind blob we call communities we can slowly start to build a own church around that topic, huh? It needs really much imagination to believe in such a thing, especially when speaking about a sea of individuals which are playing a MMO and mostly don't give a fork about anything than their personal space.
But streamers have the same problems and fail to understand this, especially when they start to rant about how mean community XYZ is and how community XYZ send them death threads. I can't imagine how much mental gymnastics you have to do to believe there is a hivemind behind a playerbase like this. I have the feeling most people just take the person who screams the loudest as the representative which leads to the false conclusion that everyone quieter than them must be the same. When in fact everyone quieter than the screaming zealots are people who don't give a fork about anything. And that is true for XIV, WOW, any streamers community and every person on this planet who doesn't give a fork about anyone else.
So a heavy-endgame focused streamer that has already said he doesnt like FF14 previously and isnt big on story-telling....is giving FF14 a try?
If he makes it to Heavensward, its a miracle.
This basically. ARR has shown itself to be the great filter when it comes to new player retention for one reason or another. I've never had problems with it myself but I can see how certain folks definitely can. I don't expect more than a few hours played resulting in either a scathing review or a quiet shelving.
Having played through ARR just before and just after the patch (on 2 Alts), I definitely feel the whole situation is better but yes: it absolutely needs significantly more work. A lot of stuff (like the chores you do around Titan/wineport/“Tidus”) are fun as side stories, but as required main quests… maybe 1 and done.
There are many instances where we have a linkpearl and should just be using that to report in and get further instructions.
The bloat also makes leveling very out of sync. Nothing wrong with being a little over, but I’m almost 80 on an alt at the very start of shadowbringers…
I was 70ish around idylshire, making access to the new gear there moot (and probably confusing to a new player)
I enjoyed it when it was all there was, but having played through ShB, the quality of ARR just doesn’t represent what the game has to offer.

To be fair new players can now fly in ARR and i bet if a streamer who is mostly about the PvE content starts to play he will buy the story skip and job booster.
I'm looking forward to his reactions of the game. Especially since he's refused to touch the game till now.![]()
I've been looking forward to this for a while. His chat might flip out, but hopefully he enjoys his time.
If he ever somehow reads this, from what I've seen he'd probably enjoy skipping straight to Heavensward and doing a little bit of synopsis of ARR before streaming. The darker fantasy setting and dragons seem to be his style.
I am thinking the same thing, if he really wants to off-stream he should probably go through the New Game+ to see all of ARR but honestly he could read the summaries on the internet of it all.I've been looking forward to this for a while. His chat might flip out, but hopefully he enjoys his time.

I will never understand why people watch other people play video games.
I will never understand why people are "fans" of people who play video games.
And of all the streamers out there, I will never understand why people like Asmongold.
Seriously, find something more productive to do.
