Main reason you see Clemency from the weird PLD is because they have lifebar anxiety. Healing even the smallest scratches, I saw it the other day in Dalriada. Thankfully I had cleric stance (lost seraph strike) to make up some of their lost damage.

There is no "more DPS" gained from you using Clemency because you're subtracting your own DPS. But heres the thing, nearly all healing by healers is done through off gcd spells so they're never really losing out on DPS to heal you in the first place, and most of the time they don't need your help. You getting below 50% or even 20% doesn't really matter much. They most likely have something prepared.
As a WHM who hates Clemency with a burning passion... Use it. Sometimes Im too focused healing the dps who got slapped by an AOE or scraping them off the floor. As long as you know I can't keep an eye on your health and I am trying to do damage control with the rest of the group/raid you def should heal yourself. OR if youre trying to pop your AoE shield with Clemency!"You know you dont need to heal me, i got it"
"Why are you healing him just do your own stuff"
Hi all, I am not an expert tank by any means, but I just wanted to discuss or calibrate, is there a Clemency Ethics for PLD?
Are there any times where it's unacceptable to use? Or is it always unacceptable to be used, even that we can tell they are struggling, unless Healers are dead?
Any opinions from healers as well, when do you think it's appropriate to use? What do you think about Clemency in general?
It's not a bait guys, I am just trying to be better at my role, and will take any input. Thanks!
Only time I really get mad about people using it is when they heal themselves when theyre only 80% health and I'm dpsing. I promise I won't let you die on purpose. ;~;
That... kind of depends. With premade groups, sure you always knows how your usual healers are. There is no "more DPS" gained from you using Clemency because you're subtracting your own DPS. In random groups however, sometimes is a gamble. The healer could be new to the role, or just not paying attention... I'd say for random groups, if you go as far as crossing the 25% line, just use it.

Why is this thread still going on!? Oh joy!
Still, that being said, their cautionary behavior is valid because they’re playing with DF pugs. Neither side recognizes each other, they HAVE to adjust accordingly. One or two slip ups doesn’t end the world. There is no "more DPS" gained from you using Clemency because you're subtracting your own DPS. If you want to be a healer just play WAR and use Nascent Flash at least you don't loose dps with it. Priority for tank is : Hold aggro > do as much dmg as possible.
If I need to use clemency to stay alive I prefer a wippe to teach the healer a lesson. I'm a main tank for years now and I never had to use Clemency, with cd on huge pack even bad healer can keep me alive.
Healers totes get mad when I pop Bloodbath or Second Wind. You can't even imagine the incandescent rage when I Feint a boss.
True story.
Clemency all you want. I have a complicated WHM dps rotation to keep up.
Seriously though... who cares? If a PLD wants to use it, by all means do.

As far as Bloodbath and similar abilities go, I only use it when the healers aren't healing or if I make a mistake. The way I see it, if I make a mistake, it is my job to rectify it however I can.

I think some healers might take offense to a PLD using Clemency because healing is already boring enough as it is. Our DPS rotation consists of using a dot once every 30 seconds, and spamming your one damaging spell ad infinitum. And in casual content like the Expert roulette, people are already barely losing health. I'm pretty confident tanks can solo those dungeons if they wanted. I've had a couple of runs where I didn't use a single healing spell, save for Assize (and even then, that was to deal damage).
That being said, I honestly don't care/mind if a Paladin is using Clemency. Good for them for using their tools, I guess, but stressing over someone that you'll only see for the next 15 mins seems a bit silly.
