I wouldn't say everything, but these kinds of games always have long term plans as to where they are going. Of course, things happened that changed the plans somewhat, but we would be naive to think they wouldn't still use as much of what was already there as possible.

Someone actually said, long ago, that a year's worth of content was already in the works for this game. Hell if I can remember who it was now though. There have been so many delays and changes that it is more than feasible we are still waiting for that stuff.

The inns are a good example. This is something the original director had already planned for us, but was unfinished. Now under Yoshi, it got finished.

all it means is no subscription, but paying more then subscription content games for the same ammount of content to play everything

so in the end p2p > f2p if you want to actualy pay less for your content

    we do not want that

while Yoshi may be looking into it, every game is looking into it on some level, the problem is going over to it once your so far established because then it becomes a hassle.

Can you imagine games like 11 and wow going f2p at this point? the ammount of stuff theyd have to nix and put a price on in order to do it? imagine losing ALL your dungeons in wow and then having to rebuy them if you dont subscribe to the game. then imagine losing every bit of content in 11 and having to pay for it all again in order to continue to do it.

wanna do dynamis? thats 20 bucks down in order to unlock the classics, and another 20 to unlock the promathia ones.
wanna do salvage? thatl be another 20 bucks
wanna do the cop storyline? 5 bucks per chapter

thats how free to play works, its not free, not in the slightest and alot of people do not understand that
I agree with everything here. F2P is only 'free' in a loose, general sense. Also, keep in mind that with the F2P model, the development focus shifts from creating quality content that will draw more subs to creating inconvenience and carrots on sticks to convince people to fork over an ever increasing supply of cash.

The quality of LotRO nosedived after they went F2P. I don't want to see the same happen here.

I have a serious problem with F2P games because of the terrible communities they tend to generate. Just look at League of Legends...

Agreed here. I'm not even sure why this is in dispute.

I would say that there is a difference between rmt activity and paying for microcontent. Rmt operate by exploiting elements of the game design that are intended to let players make gil, and in so doing they make those game elements inaccessible to ordinary players. In an ideal world for rmt the players can't make gil using the normal methods designed into the game and must therefore buy it. The sad truth for those who buy gil is that those who sell it have a motivation to devalue the product they sell thus forcing people to purchase even more of it. They're more like drug pushers than businessmen.

RMT activity breaks the game where microcontent is built into the design of the game and the game can continue to operate normally in spite of people purchasing their content instead of playing for it. I don't happen to like that play model, but to each his own.

if they go F2P ill quit, been playing happily since release and i can tolerate the way theyve made it easier, which is kinda lame, but F2P isnt worth my time. It'd be a shame if a FF has to do that.

I agree with you, however that year is already been up from "Tanaka's Vision" which his Step Down Date was in January I believe. So from here on out, all this is Yoshi-P Direction from now till 2.0 and Beyond, MOst of the things that was Mentioned in the outline of 2.0 is his Vision, Granted a Few loose ends that Yoshi-P has to add from Tanaka's Vision. ( Like Hamlet Defense and Inn's).

But Jobs ( a Key change within this game) were under Yoshi-P Directions

If the game can't recover with 2.0 and their "relaunch", then i could see them evaluating f2p. Hell, that's probably the only way i'll get any of my RL friends to play it again.

Anyone who played mmos (which sadly at the time was Wow'ers) made fun of ffxi people for how tedious/boring leveling was (though at least it had a sense of accomplishment)... if you mention ffxiv to anyone who's played anything they laugh. Its going to take a miracle to get any sort of respect back in the gaming community.

Please clear this up for me as i really can't wrap my head around it. You'll play a game that easy, but if that game is free they cross the line?

If it goes f2p you can just paypal me $13 a month and keep playing

I wouldn't worry there. If Yoshida manages to deliver what 2.0 has the potential to be your friends will come back of their own accord. Since they're RL friends you can always show them 2.0 on your own system to pique their interest.

I'd probably have to nerdrage a bit if they went F2P. I mean, I purchased 2 collectors editions, and I am currently supporting the development path to v2.0 with my $10/month subscription. If after all that they were to switch to a model where suddenly I either had to fork out a large sum of money for a "premium membership" or pay item by item to unlock things.. yeah.. Wouldn't go over very well with me. SE would lose more than an XIV player.
