Unless you pay to skip it all.Stop thinking of it like "an obstacle at the end of the MSQ", because it is part of the MSQ. There is pre-credits MSQ and there is post-credits MSQ. It's a serialised story and if you arrive late, you need to catch up.
And from the perspective of someone who enjoys the story, adding that many fluffy optional quests that can't drive the main plot forward and can't be referenced later (except in further side stories) would not be a benefit.
Additionally, if they can't tell this story across the post-credits phase, they're just going to have to stuff it into the pre-credits phase and make that even longer.
You're right.
I don't have any issues wrt paying. If I could pay them to skip the MSQ content, I would, if only I could do them when I felt like like it. Can you?
You can use New Game+ to play through all quests, you just obviously won't get the exp from them - since skipping MSQ is much the same as skipping your job quests.
Yes, if you pay to skip now, you can use New Game Plus to replay all the MSQ later. Likewise for job stories if you pay to boost them.
That's good to know, thanks.
Although I can't stomach leveling a character to 80 that way (especially since my highest toon is 74 or something.
I'll just continue to pay my subscription while playing another game (or posting here) until my husband catches up.
Edited note: Just to be clear, my opening post is not about subscription costs. It's really trivial to us.
Buying a max level toon is a different matter that crosses a gaming moral line I will not do in an MMO. I'm fine with cheats in a single player game, or an MO using mods, i.e., everyone is playing by the same rules, although the benefits from subscriptions to an MMO and allowing people to play for free with less privilege is fine.

That's a great mindset.
But level is not a concern in FFXIV, the tremendous amount of MSQ is.
My main role is level 80 and I still stuck in HW.
It made things easy, though. Felt like a warrior of light when I one punch small fries![]()
Yep, that's EXACTLY my point.
Having to slog through MSQ fetch quests, which I do get that when they were created, were meant to fulfill the dev's promise for updates as well as keep players occupied until the next expansion.
My only problem with them is that new and returning players have to slog through them, despite owning the latest expansion (and kudos to the devs for making that a thing!), most of which have nothing to do with story.
They could fix this by changing the coding of those quests to something other than MSQ.
