Coerthas isn't actually supposed to be a snowy wasteland; before the Calamity it was green and verdant with snowcapped mountains. A lot of people don't realize that Ishgard actually had a large ocean harbor with sea trade, because the harbor in Western Coerthas is frozen.

"Not supposed to be frozen" is not exactly accurate. It previously wasn't frozen, but the aetherial balance was tipped and it absolutely is expected to remain frozen for the foreseeable future.

Also, where was the ocean harbour? Is that the big gate in the north?
