FF14 devs just keep doing your thing because my god

Not really, there's a site that uses a number of internet scouring algorithms to try gauge the population and sentiment of each mmo, WoW is top but the sub count fluctuates a lot during xpac launches which is why many players see their friends list die, ff14 is the 2nd biggest mmo in that list with 2.2m subs but it doesnt have the extreme flactuations WoW has and has a constant increase of players which is far better. Site is mmo population and is using the same algorithms for all games so even if it isnt completely accurate, the approximation and comparisons are decently fair.

Yeah, WoW's not in as great of shape as people might think. And I know their latest expansion turned a fair number of people off to WoW. A week after I unsubbed, I got a lengthy survey from them to fill out regarding Shadowlands and its various systems. They only really send those out when something unpleasant is going on behind the scenes. I doubt they sent one out just for me. lol

What are you talking about? The announcement was great. New raid tier, new dungeon, new mounts and cosmetics, new zones. It's great.

At the end of the day, WoW is and will continue to be the better MMO. Focusing on high end content is great. I don't think you know what you're talking about OP.

Seriously why do you stick around here, you are beyond negative on literally everything this game does. This game likes to cater towards everyone, which you seem to have a fit over.

Anyway, on topic, I am not a big mmo person, XIV is the only one that has ever hooked me. But I do interact with people who do others and it feels like a lot of people play WoW still only because they are attached to their progress, or they refuse to play "that there anime mmo", afraid to look like a weeb. The people who are heads of WoW now seem to only care about money and push content for that reason, no matter how broken or bugged it is, so the toxic raiders are happy.
XIV is by no means perfect, I have complaints. But I do think they listen way more then this current WoW team ever will.

A lot of the WoW hate is just resentment. For many people, WoW used to be a brilliant game. I personally enjoyed it and spend countless hours there which I don't regret. However over time they removed or ruined a significant number of things that people liked, to the point that millions who enjoyed the game finally had enough and had to move elsewhere.

People are just angry at the devs for wrecking something they loved. That's why they take satisfaction at seeing Blizzard struggle, wish for them to do badly or ramble on about how FF14 is superior. Secretly I imagine a good number of players would actually prefer to be playing WoW right now, just a version where all the old things they enjoyed and praised the game for still existed and were built on. Classic barely scratched that itch, as good as it might be, it's outdated content that's been seen and done and new story, zones, classes, ect keep things exciting. I love FF14 but in all honesty if WoW was as good as it has been in the past, I wouldn't be here.

Yeah, I guess this is me to be honest. I look back at the time I've spent fondly, but I'm going to remain very salty for awhile after everything they've done to it. I don't really talk about it much on the forums or in game, but if the subject is brought up...well, I can't help myself.

I've always thought FFXIV was the best among all it's competitors currently. It's why I'm here (since HW). I was talking about this yesterday I think, WoW never pulled me in. This game did. I might criticize this game a lot, but I do so because I think SE could do better. I'd rather see this game thrive, and get better and better. Now, people may not agree with my opinions, but they aren't coming from a place of hate. I wouldn't spend so much money, or put so many hours into this game, if I didn't like like it.

I completely agree with that. To put things into perspective, I tried WoW three times over a couple of years and always left after like a week because I was severely bored. Not my focus. I didn't see any story and the quests felt anaemic. With Guild Wars 2 I stuck like 2 years, but I've been playing XIV since 1.0 closed alpha so SE must be doing something right. lol

The only way they can feel good about themselves is to let everyone know that they enjoy high end content. As if it's somehow special.

And that sort of attitude is among the list of things that made me leave WoW. Lots of lovely people there but too many divas who are more interested in looking good than anything else. I rarely have to deal with them in FFXIV by comparison and that's nice.

I was resentful for a long time as it became obvious that Blizzard are riding on the prestige of WoW instead of maintaining the standard that gave them that prestige in the first place.

Now I'm just disappointed. I quit at the end of WoD and when I came back recently I was so sad to see that the design philosophy had not changed. There are new things but for me these were merely new things to be frustrated about. Not everything is terrible, it's that not enough is great. They have the means to make things so much better but those with decision making power are too disconnected from the end-user experience to do that, and they seem to show little interest in becoming more connected.

FFXIV is by no means perfect but at least for me the list of my problems with that game are significantly shorter than WoW, even when compared to the time when I adored WoW.

If other people enjoy WoW more good for them, but it stopped being the game for me a long time ago.

Asmongold actually quit streaming recently due to stress. Blizzard treated that guy like crap and missed gold opportunities to hold community events with him to a massive audience.
