I never understood the little brother syndrome with XIV. Both are different games, that cater to different taste. Enjoy one without dunking on the other.

Yeah FF14 really is better because yet again a game director who focused on systems over content is forced to devote an entire companies resources and months to fixing systems he said had no problem and players were just overreacting too.
You better believe I am DELIGHTED FF14 devs look at that stuff with confusion on why you would try to reinvent something that just works. I never see FF14 making just arbitrary decisions with time gating on core content in FF14, I do not have to worry in Endwalker all of sudden having new borrowed powers or some utter insanity change when it comes to gear acquisition.
I never have to worry in FF14 that my professions are useful and now in the next expansion they are completely pointless. I CAN INVEST TIME knowing that my work will have a long term benefit. Wow what a concept I invest my time into a character and they do not pull the rug out from under me because the game director forgot to take his bipolar meds.
There is no dev post that FF14 devs make where as a long term WoW player the thought goes through my head of how Blizzard would have responded to a similar situation with some lawyered up answer and making fun of the people posting serious issues with a system.
That is normally what I would say prior to Shadowlands, but I've been...disenchanted to say the very least. Like I said earlier, I'm very salty. lol You make a very good point though and normally I'd 100% agree with you. Times have changed, however.
Sounds like to me that people who like FFXIV more are people who want the easier game.
The thing is I don't think WoW even caters to its own audience particularly well anymore. There is a reason why current and past WoW players are known for often being very bitter. They love what the game was and should be, and Blizzard deliver enough of what it should be to keep people hanging on, but not enough for them to be truly happy. It took me many years to quit because I was clinging to nostalgia and unfulfilled promises. It wasn't until I found FFXIV that I was able to let go. FFXIV is far from perfect, but the devs do a better job of catering to their multifaceted audience.
It just makes me so sad. Even though I prefer FFXIV I have no desire to watch WoW die. I loved that game for a reason and I'm so disappointed that newer and current players don't get to experience those reasons.
And no classic is not a way to truly experience the reasons why WoW was so great because you can't have an authentic classic experience when a huge majority of the players have a completely different mindset to over a decade ago. You can experience something for the first time only once, so the days of true classic WoW are long gone.
It also feels like, for me at least, that releasing classic was a cop out. Classic servers rose in popularity as the public opinion of retail continued to fall. That's not a coincidence. Had WoW continued to maintain the standard that gave them the crown, there wouldn't have been as much demand for classic. Instead of working hard to make players want to play retail far more, they released classic to inflate sub numbers.
Well I think the issue is with WoW they aren't even doing that, at least that's from people who were generally IN LOVE with the game at one point. I'm not here to be like "wow bad never play", I generally would be happy if someone got joy out of WoW even if I didn't like it. But the soul is gone (just like everything else at Blizzard these days) and all they want is the Almighty Dollar.
This can potentially kill any online game really, it's only fair to have content for everyone. I had to roll my eyes when certain XIV content creators are upset over the delay (or bemoan about those who don't even raid complaining about it) of Ultimate or keep asking for in game parsing because many of us know the intentions it can be used for in a negative light. Not sure what is the thought process of end game raiders aside from the e-sports mentality, but there's always FEAST?I feel it is more due to devs sharing a mentality with certain high end players who see casual content as something "beneath them", especially people who use the word "deserve" a lot in a video game as if this is a real life job
They keep making changes to shield their high end from having to do anything in the game other than raid log which means everything else in the game suffers

I've never played WoW, will never have to-- that game just never appealed to me. I remember researching it just because I love looking into MMOs on the market-- but it never gave me a sliver of excitement in anyway. As I've stated several times in the past, I was truly fortunate to have been fully engrossed in FFXI when WoW released in 2004, so I had a perfect excuse never to bother playing it.
Truly fortunate.
"After ten years, finally headed to Sharlayan... absolutely stoked"
