Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

The whole gender-locked race thing is a mistake. It was a mistake in FFXI too, make no mistake about that either. It was recognized as a mistake when 1.0 was deemed in need of serious fixing, because both roegadyn and miqote were gender-locked from the beginning (along with higherlander hyurs being male only). That's why each of those races got their missing counterparts at the start of 2.0, to rectify that.

But for whatever reason, SE has deemed it okay to repeat this past mistake and add two genderlocked races. Why? For "lore"? We all know that "lore" is an excuse. Lore can be whatever it needs to be, retconned if it has to be. Why should we even defend this?

SE, if you're going to do something, do it right. Stop playing dumb and add what's missing, will ya?

I've gone over and OVER this. They're not FFXII Viera suddenly sucked into a portal and dumped in the XIV world. They're Hydaelin Viera. They look similar to Ivalice Viera (note: no clawed, three-toed feet, no long claws, ears sit differently, eyes look somewhat different), they have similar (note: SIMILAR, not THE SAME, SIMILAR) Lore, but they're NOT the same.

EVEN THOUGH Matsuno worked on Return to Ivalice, they're not the same. To the point that it's repeatedly mentioned that Ivaliceans are Proto-Garleans, especially the Gougans. Matsuno basically added Fran (and she was added later in development because originally he wanted to add Balthier), the XIV dev team decided to make Viera, and basically made THEIR version of Viera, not Matsuno's (or, Akihiko Yoshida's, the character designer).

And Ill repeat it over and OVER, its not up to us if we get Male Viera. Maybe we will, maybe we won't.
Us arguing over and over about about what game we are playing doesn't change that fact.

The 'lore' was always a flimsy excuse in my opinion. It's constantly changing and based on the premise surrounding 6.0 and the global threat it represents...that'd be a pretty good excuse to justify adding the missing genders as a playable option. All it really needs is a line of dialogue suggesting that a handful of male viera/female hrothgar quietly left their respective homelands in order to become adventurers. That covers the ARR to ShB time period. For EW, the reasoning can be that many more male viera/female hrothgar were driven out due to their homes being set on fire and attacked by the new threat.

Its only flimsy because people always point at the Miqote and the Roes getting changed.
And if 6.0 is gonna be an excuse to change it...awesome, that means adapted lore. Which Ive said is all I want to get me on board with Male Viera suddenly appearing

They already explained why they did what they did.
This might be the last chance to make a new race, they wanted to fulfil 2 requests, and they didnt have enough time & resources.

No it doesn't, but when you say these Viera are the Viera from the Ivalice Alliance games, that's an outright lie. No it's not up to us if we get Male Viera/Fem Hrothgar but saying that "they don't show up in the Ivalice games" is no evidence that they can't show up in this one, especially when they're already mentioned in this one. (With a particular "Oh, too bad he ran away, I would have liked to introduce you")

And, as you yourself mentioned before, there's already a Lore excuse they can fall back on; if Male Viera are made playable and their flavour text changes, then cool; if it doesn't, tough beans, WoL is a special snowflake that can be any race they wish, Male Viera NPCs can join the race/gender club of NPCs of which less than a handful exist.

Viera is Viera. Thats not a lie in the slightest. Doesn't matter what game. Its still a Viera.
I never said they can't show up here, that has never Never NEVER been any of my arguments.

Glad we can agree on that final part. Can we stop right there and be cool, Or do we need to argue and fight some more about this?
