    I think another way to put it is, at what cost, and for what benefit? There is a selfishness from both parties. Your request comes at a cost, with a benefit to you. That cost potentially means less of something that person might want. Hard to quantify such things without actually being SE, but let's not pretend it's just selfishness on one end... or try moralise about it.

    But I think they are correct, in that this is a point of view of a segment of the American population, and certainly some other segments elsewhere, but definitely not something the "majority of the world" has "gone past". Don't confuse your social media echo chambers for "the world".
