Ah yes, a glitter emoji thread about the least divisive character in the game.

We all love lyse’s top-notch character development (second only to the greatest villain in ff history, Zenos), and op is not a troll.

Lyse and Zenos being mentioned in the same sentence reminds me of those theories that used to run around that she'd end up being Zenos. At least if they'd done that, they'd have wrapped up two mistakes into one.

Eeh... I don't agree Zenos is terribly written.

He's motivated by boredom which can be a hard motivation to actually connect to but that's probably why he's paired off with villains whose motives are more complex (Yotsuyu in Stormblood and next up it loos like it will be Fandaniel).

I'm not sure I'd call him terribly written, either, in the sense that I wouldn't blame the person writing him. I'm sure they're doing the best they can with the material they have. However, his presence past Stormblood feels forced, and while I get what they're trying to do with him, I just don't care for it (or him.) I'm just eager to move past him. Hopefully Fandaniel will overtake him and we can move onto something more gripping than either of them.

I'm not sure I'd call him terribly written, either, in the sense that I wouldn't blame the person writing him. I'm sure they're doing the best they can with the material they have. I wouldn't rule out Fandaniel yet. I see people are already worried he'll be a shallow character and I get it but we're in the late MSQ of Shadowbringers now. This time in Stormblood I was very "meh" about Solus zos Galvus but Shadowbringers proper turned me around on him in a huge way. Fandy may have depth we haven't seen yet.

Hard for me to explain why I find Zenos and Lyse badly written w/o going deep into spoiler territory. But I would say it’s the vibes I get from them. A good villian or even hero needs to have a purpose for what they do as well as make the player invested in wanting to fight them or play with them.

Zenos is just one dimensional to me. Varis had way more meaning behind what he did and his choices, while Zenos is the bored bully at school. That is the vibe I get.

My point is more that Zenos seems like he's coming across the way Square wants him to. His motives and overall characterization remain consistent so I don't feel he is written badly. He might be a character people don't find compelling but that's not the same as bad writing to me, especially when Zenos seems to share the villain stage. He seems like he's intended to play second fiddle to other personalities.

My concern isn't so much about Fandaniel. At least there's scope to do something interesting with him, without it feeling forced, like connecting him to the ultimate cause of the final days. Does he interest me as much as the unsundered Ascians? No, not really. TBF, I never really had such a concern with Solus, probably because I've always thought there was quite a bit more to the Ascian agenda. But my hope is that Fandaniel will tie into whatever instigated Amaurot's fall, be it some cosmic horror, ancient deity or some death cult, or something similar.

%uck you OP. I happen to actually LIKE Lyse and think she's hated unfairly. Her jacket is the best in the game alone with her over all first design with the short shorts. I wish she kept that outfit. And all I'mma say is at least she DID shit. Yeah she fail alot but what did you expect? She was a bimbo loonie before stormblood... atleast SB gave her a more serious role. And atleast she wasn't what they normally do which is give use useless perfectly perfect pretty boys with no bite. Yeah I said it.

I have to ask...what did she do exactly? She went on some soul search with the WoL and her bestie Alisae and accomplished little to nothing. Guess who helped take back Doma? Not her. She went back home after that and was promoted to the leader of the rebellion because reasons, and did little to nothing to take back Ala Mhigo (throwing a few punches at Fordola and following us up to the Menagerie after we did all the work doesn't count) but was more than willing to take up a leadership role for which she had no experience in (still has none by the way). She also said "let's summon the Ananta that still really hate us for a peace summit. Let's just sit in a circle on the floor and talk it all out. It'll be fine!" Spoilers: it wasn't fine. They attacked, which anyone who wasn't her should have seen coming a mile away. And since then...she has still done next to nothing except "I talk to people. Yay me!". How is that an interesting character? Cool outfits are nice and all, but if that is most of her appeal...then she's a poorly written character.

What did ANYONE do but us as the WOL? This is why I will never understand the hate she gets but every one of the pretty boys gets all this love from. WE do ALL the work. US. None of them do anything and Lyse made one mistake with the primal thot... I chalk that up to plot. Just like us being told to throw the eyes of nigghog off the cliff by what's his face. Hmm noone seems to bring THAT up tho huh and that was way stupidier then Lyse. Cause at least We the WOL was there to handle the issue.. and we did. And again, she was learning. She wasn't posed to be perfect. Unlike everyone else who is set up as these pretty mr know it alls but still end up ccrying for the WOL to do their work cause they can't fix their own problems.
