For real, at this point throwing housing in the cash shop would be better than the system they have now. At least maybe Large and XL housing. People will pay 35 bucks for a mount, im certain theyd pay whatever for a house, even if they become account locked and limitedThe same people who buy gil? Definitely would need to be account locked, but if it is purchasable I'd prefer they be unlimited. I'm not sure about recurring payments for it, or 1 time charge would be best.. Certainly in the eyes of business masters, "recurring payments" would be needed.. but if you handled it like retainers, and just charged a nominal fee per month that'd be pretty good idea, just don't be like 20$ or more a month. If it were a 1 time fee I could see something like 40 bucks for a big one. Housing is something I like, but I'm not gonna spend a whole bunch on it. Even a medium house handled in the optional services manner could be like $5 a month, just let everybody on the service account use it, or data center at least. How they'd go about making it? Not sure. Could look through all the various suggestions about an instanced housing system.
Can we stop encouraging SE to, microtransaction us even further in game which we buy to play and pay subscriptions for?
inb4 "Optional Content."
SE could improve upon apartments so that they are upgradeable for gil to condos/penthouses with balconies for gardening and workshop access to reduce demand on ward housing. That seems the most feasible improvement.

I actually agree with you about the encouragement, i dont cash shop, besides once with eternal bonding shenanigans, which was indeed optional anyway. Personally I feel like the gated content from housing, really is more decoration space, and more limiting even, if you arent a FC house personally. It does allow gardening and chocobo stables for private people, sure(almost certain many FC dont even care if you stable the chocobo as long as you clean the stable when needed) which leaves gardening as possibly the only content one might be prevented from in an FC where they do not have those permissions. And a lot of space to drop furniture. But as far as losing out on content, only FC get that content when owning a house, like literally. Outside of RP, or just cause, you really arent losing out anything. In fact, you can even own a private room in a FC house, but a personal one? Do I think any of that is fair? well not particularly. Plot wise and everything is the same, besides that tag. But the content area? Its all stacked on FC, and not so much private really. Can we stop encouraging SE to, microtransaction us even further in game which we buy to play and pay subscriptions for?

Yeah, the entire "give us microtransactions for housing!" thing seems a bit... off... here.
Doubly so when instanced housing would be a good compliment to the current system and would help alleviate many of the issues we've seen for a long while.
As cool as balconies are, I could see this running into some technical issues with how the ward is interacting with the balcony. If the balcony is facing away from the ward... that would (hopefully) be a very doable thing. Facing towards the ward and the devs would need tech similar to phasing. That said, it'd still be cool if they could pull it off and would also make apartments **A LOT** more interesting as a housing alternative, as cross-gardening is the one crucial thing that they need to be a compelling alternative to houses IMO.

I honestly think this is the best idea for improving things. Apartments will never be subject to the demolition timer, so if they were a little more equal, I feel like it'd go a long way to easing up the competition for ward housing.
The Bokairo Inn rooms already make a decent example of what the outdoor area attached to the instanced apartment could look like. Bonus if there's no zoning required to reach it. In addition to a garden upgrade, a loft upgrade could allow a second floor for decorating.
As for workshops, I wonder if apartment buildings couldn't be equipped with a communal workshop similar to the way their chocobo stables work. With several projects ongoing at once and being locked to the person that started them. But also allowing other apartment owners from the building to contribute if they're feeling generous for whatever reason.
