This has come up before; and the general gist of a lot of players is:

    A) Certain specific outfits are gender locked and there is no alternate equivalent (eg. Thancred is not the male version of Y’shtola)
There is certainly a case for adding opposite gender versions, but that’s a different discussion.

    B) Certain items have a clear male-female version and it would be easy to just link them into a single item, except the naming of the item would need to change. Essentially how event gear works (bikini top for girls, bare chest for guys, despite the icon).

OP is debating B I believe. Unless there is a plan to build in cross dressing in the future, I don’t really see the need to keep separate things like the old-fashioned schoolboy/girl outfit.

In my case, there are several outfits I like, but I don’t want to buy two copies of essentially the same gear to dress up retainers/squadron.

For mog station items it is quite clear when you purchase them that they are gender locked - you make the decision to proceed with the purchase knowing that is the case. You are then told at the checkout that you waive your rights to a refund on them if you open the mail on the moogle.

So sorry but I am against this - characters make a decision to buy gender locked items and then decide to switch their genders - again their conscious decision. They need to take the responsibility for those decisions and be aware of the implications.

Yeah, but it's an unnecessary and player hostile decision that gets in the way of fun.
You're saying we just have to live with it like this is part of the way the world works, but this is part of a man made system and can be changed.

Basically yes - live with it. People have accepted that for as long as the Mog Station and CERTAIN outfits are gender locked. People purchasing an outfit entered into a contract at the time of purchase which was completed to their satisfaction. They then want to change their minds and sorry but you have to draw the line.

If this were permitted it would then open the gates for other people who "change their minds" on purchases - bought a job boost but now decide you don't like it - no problem speak to an NPC and they will reverse it and you can take your pick of all the other jobs.

Bought a Fantasia but decide you don't like the look - hey no worries this NPC will give you another.

Then why would they only allow wedding attire to be exchanged? Personally there is nothing wrong with it at all. It honestly would increase Fantasia sales which i'm sure they would like. I tend to switch races/genders here and there but now i don't want to the more they come out with more gender locked costumes and everything is on my female Miqo'te.

On a sidenote - In TERA i switched races so much the GM's just decided to give me all the Human/Castanic/Elin race equivalents of the costumes i had. Which was nice.

I feel it's because when you buy the Eternal Bonding Ring from the Mogstation, that itself isn't actually gender restricted. You can put the ring on any gender, plus you may also change genders before your ceremony anyway so the flexibility means you can exchange between the attire depending on what you actually need/want.

Just because that's the way things have been doesn't mean that's the way they should be.
We just disagree on where the line should be drawn.

most people that complain on the forum always want something that favors them over the system. they want to be able to milk it but the system needs to still be able to make its money, so therefore the system wins out and the whiners keep complaining into the void.

Wouldn't make as much money? You really think people are buying both sets of the costume for male and female? I'm sure they make more off selling Fantasia which is why Fantasia has always been in the #1 spot on the store. This would increase Fantasia sales even more if people could freely exchange their costumes instead of having to buy both sets which i won't. So i don't see it hurting the "System".

if they are desperate enough they are buying both because they know they can't swap them regardless of how many fantasia's they buy. because they know they can't change the system and it's never going to change.
