    The toxicity starting to happen.

FF 14 is like a group of friends playing DND in their moms basement. We all get along, for the most part, we all help each other out. Some of us get married in that basement to pixels, and some take that straight to the real altar.

But recently I have been seeing a lot of new players, I like new players. Shiny little creatures with that little tiny seedling. They come and announce "I am a new tank here" and that's amazing. I want to help you any way I can.

Then the healer states "Pull large, I got this." The tank continues to state they are uneasy pulling large amounts, they try, we wipe, I say slow down, take your time. The healer gets pissy, threatens to leave, I initiate the kick vote, it fails, he leaves.

    Summary: Whats with the drama?

I come from ARR, when HW was new and shiny. I had my fair share of idiots, we all have. But when there's new people we should banding together to help them, not rush through because we can.

The other side of that coin is new players coming from other games "well this isn't so and so, so it sucks" Or you give them advice, I have little tanking experience, but one time the tank could not keep argo, I told him the particular skill to use (the one where spikes come up through the ground, spacing on the name) and he gets all snippy. "In wow this is how I played, it works more or less the same here, you just suck"

I'm sorry you entitled, spoiled little brat - but I am trying to help you be a better player.

Christ. What is happening? From the mass zerg (GW2 term) farms for hunts to the rampant attack against and from new players. Every day is a fight through either super silent dungeons aside from the intial: "o/" to the constant use of (in some cases) the N word or other racial slurs.

I get it, shadowbringers was awesome, we bout to get some good eggs, some bad eggs and some rotten eggs. But recently it seems the old guard attacking the newer generation and the newer generation assuming "this is like "x" game, shut up".

Any one else notice this or am I on drugs?

    EDIT

What you guys are missing is that this is not about being a tank, not about being any class in general. You can see the toxicity even in the way people respond to the thread posts here. The way they down talk, "mansplain" and give you elitisim. This forum is full of it, so is the game. Rare is it for me to have a encounter in dungeon or other wise that is at all positive with the influx of new players, which as stated, is expected in some cases. But it seems with the pandemic, the lack of things and places to go and do has lead to a lot of new players, who a lot of the times use jump potions, have no idea whats going on and have no idea how to play their class REGARDLESS of the class.

This leads us to a whole new group of "you don't pay my sub" mentality and "This game sucks, there's no story" - well ya when you use a jump potion and its your very first time ever. The typical "too slow" or "the combat sucks" is also starting to creep up. Running dungeons was fun, use to be wall to wall, now its 1 or two mobs at a time, in its self not bad. But when the tank has no idea what they're doing or the healer, god for bid you know how to play your class to any degree. The DPS just runs around with its head cut off, you wipe. you try and lead the party but its like herding angry cats with swords for claws.

The racism, sexism, homophobia in some dungeons and raids is beyond absord. The Constant attacks, you whipe half the party leave, you get castrum - half the party leaves. Before SHB and even during SHB i never witnessed this kind of toxicity in the amount I have in the last year or so. Reporting is useless, because I see the same person who said the N word in a party chat still in game.

6 months to a year ago you dealt with this, sure, on a small scale. Today, its all over the place.

Hope that clears things up and gets off the "learn to play your tank class" rant.

You are late. It started already way back in ARR but it was just less.
Now FFXIV is much more popular and so more people are joining and so are more bad and rotten eggs coming to this community.
Also the so called GCBTW does its part to isolate people and "protect" its "save space" and by this hurting the community.

Easiest way to solve this is to turn off tank stance and pull large and tell the healer to use their pro leet heals to keep everyone alive or just randomly shirk you aggro to the healer for laughs.

I DESPISE healers that want to pretend they know how to tank.

Uh I don't think "zerg" is from GW2. Pretty sure it's from StarCraft 2 or something?

Either way, toxicity isn't new, and you have a right to choose to not deal with it or be pushed around by toxic players. This includes reporting them for harassment, hate speech, or whatever it is they're doing that's a problem. Assuming it's a prohibited activity, of course.

Because tanking is oh so difficult. Seriously, pulling two packs in a dungeon basically amounts to "Can you press Vengeance, and as it's about to fall off press Rampant next? Yes? Hooray! Pull two packs now." By level 50, there is zero reason not to double pull. I can appreciate not wanting to do the super pulls, especially in Shadowbringers as those can catch people off guard. But a group of 5-6 mods does jack all to a tank nowadays. And if it's the healer telling you to pull more, why not give it a shot? You lose absolutely nothing at least trying.

More whining from scaredy cat single pulling tanks and the GCBTW that enables them. Hit your AoE buttons, use your cooldowns, it's not hard y'all. In fact it's easier than ever. Some of you people never would've made it before Shadowbringers.

I've seen both. By that I mean the complete opposite. The tank pulling way to much and the healer telling them smaller groups. Happens, just decide if its correctable. If not leave. Im really happy they added ilvl requirements to leveling dungeons. There really isnt more of one over the other.

    Ohh I don't know...let's see....

    -new to dungeon
    -new to role
-new to the game as a whole
    -tanxiety
    -undergeared
    -getting used to new skills/rotation/keybinds
-'thin skin' aka, praying the other party members aren't jerks
-testing how the other party members perform

heck, even all of the above at once is an option. Tanking in itself may be mechanically easy, but clearly the great majority of players aren't willing to do it, more often than not, out of fear of the other players, not the content itself.

Point proven. This is exactly why tanking will always be, in every game ever, the least played role. Nothing encourages people more to try a role than being belittled and judged right from the get go.

I'll be honest, I see less toxicity in game then people complain about online (only the occasional elitist or troll) and I see MORE toxicity on places like Reddit.

Even as someone who was originally on NA servers for years before moving to EU servers I’ve honestly seen people being ‘elitist’ / ‘troll’ like three times between the two since I started in 1.0.

The vast majority of players I’ve met were just, normal people lol? I also find that most people prefer for someone else to set the mood of the run. If someone in goes chatty then the party will probably be more likely to talk to each other throughout the dungeon. Likewise if everyone is quiet then the party is usually going to just get on with whatever they’re doing (personally I don’t think a ‘silent party’ is such a bad thing)

It seems like every thread now is about how ‘terrible casuals’ are just doing anything they please with no regards to other party members, and ‘hardcore elitists’ are abusing others for being a percentile off the optimal dps number. I’ve yet to meet either of the two, personally, and I’m someone who used to do consecutive expert roulettes without the bonus, at capped tones, just for fun (the thought makes me shudder a little now lol)

The only ‘savage’ content I’ve ever really done was Binding Coil and a few extremes, and the very few times I done them in random / pf groups I didn’t really see ‘toxic’ or even ‘aggressive’ players
