Great idea except I've tried that. Some folks setting up the next train came by and told everyone to stop attacking the A rank and wait for hunt. When we didn't listen, they came in used the mechanics of the A rank to get it to leave its agro range, constantly resetting it until it was time for the train.

    You should have reported them.

As far as SE is concerned, marks are kill on sight. No player has the right to interfere with other players trying to kill something. That's obstruction of game play under the ToS. SE has and will ban players who are found to be resetting marks already engaged by other players. It's something we warn members of the hunt community about every time the subject of sniping and resets comes up.

If I'm out scouting and see someone trying to kill a mark, I'll let them know a train is planned soon and they might want to consider waiting for the train to save some effort. Then I'll wish them a good day regardless of what they choose to do. I will never tell them they must stop and leave it for the train. I'll circle back around after I finish scouting and see if it's dead or not. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

The train will be just fine even if there are only 9 or 10 instead of 12. If anyone whines about sniping during one of my trains or in one of my linkshells, I'll point out they're still getting those 10 kills and the others only got 1 or 2 so they have no reason to complain.

I might prefer that people wait for the train but if someone wants to kill outside of the train, they have that right.

Well I was just able to get an A rank without a train. Got a few people to show up. But some of the regular train folks showed up and started shaming us for not waiting. This highlights another problem with trains; they think they have the right away to the hunts and that somehow my decision to attack a hunt hurts a whole bunch of people. Not everyone wants to use the train nor is there a "right" way to handle the hunts.

But my intent here wasn't really to start a whole train vs non-train debate. I wanted to highlight that during initial patches especially when they release stuff for the hunt marks that they need to put some sort of limitation if the game engine can't handle the load.

The limitation is already there for what the game engine can handle. That's the 300 player per instance limit. Once that limit is reached, you're not going to get into that zone unless another player leaves it.

Any remaining problem is on the player end, not SE's. SE can't control where players choose to congregate once they've entered a zone. If the player chooses to join a crowded train with a couple of hundred players at the same map location, that's on them. SE doesn't provide the hardware or internet connection the players use. Again, that's the player's responsibility.

People need to use common sense. If someone is struggling with the reset day trains, they should wait until later in the week. Nothing says we have to cap on Tuesdays. Thursday, Friday and Sunday trains are quieter than Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday trains. Monday trains tend to be quiet as well, though trains run in the last few hours before reset can get busy if people had put off capping for the week. Players who have the option of running trains in off peak hours are better off doing that than trying to join the prime time trains.

Cap what? There's no cap on the hunt currencies AFAIK. Though I guess people who have capped their tomes and got their other weekly loot are less likely to log on just for a hunt train.

No, that is on SE. The game client is part of the system and it is clear that the client cannot handle 100 people around the same hunt. They list the minimum system requirements, so long as you meet that, it is not on the player. This is a limit of the engine and as a result SE needs to place reasonable restrictions so everyone can participate in the content.
