Yes there are bad apples, but holy crap in a lot of other MMO's it feels like it's 80% of the playerbase or something that are douchebags.
I think that generally speaking the overall tone in FFXIV is just way different than what you find FPS games or MOBA's while in other MMO's that bleed over a lot more.

This is the first game where I actually enjoy starting conversations with strangers in game, and not just on the forums.

Absolutely agree with this and there are many times, the community makes me smile and feel good about being in this game.

When someone goes out of their way to add me to their friends list because of my glamour or performance or something. It's always kinda neat.

Running around shouting for people to join my PF when it's taking a bit long just idling. I usually shout something like, "Looking for some strapping lads and lasses to beat this up for me right quick!" Nobody ever takes strapping in the proper context, which always brings about a chuckle or two.

When shields/mit go up at the right time and the tank buster does 0.

I love seeing how pretty my characters look. Like, obviously I liked the designs when I made them, but the creation screen doesn't do them justice for how they look once they're live characters moving and emoting, or in certain lights.

The scenery is gorgeous too. There are so many beautiful places in the game-world, some of them quite out of the way, and even familiar places in different weather and times of day can look new and different.

Glamour is a big one - trying things on; finding things that match; that great moment when it all comes together and works. Getting to wear it and see it in motion. Seeing other people in good glamours too!

Also the story and characters. I love little moments where they interact and show their personalities. Never pass up an opportunity to speak with everyone else before the person with the quest objective marker.

And music - it's probably the biggest factor in whether I like a dungeon or find it tedious.

I agree to everything here. I also really like how my characters look, their emotes (some of their expressions make me smile every time), creating a glamour that I like. The story and its characters, the beautiful places, the music...

What I also really love is my house and FC house, how we decorated them, just running around in them, looking at the things in there.

Definitely the community! I've found the people to be very helpful and friendly! I'll run into a bad apple every now and then but in the 3 total (off and on) years I've been playing I could barely count them on both hands. What makes me feel good and smile is when I'm taking a bit of a break in game or am waiting for a DF or something I go to my starting town (Gridania) and hang at the Crystal. If I catch a sprout in starting gear attuning it I'll stop him and give him 5000 gil to grab some stuff to help him out. It always makes me happy.

I actually had a guy about 3 months later find me and give it back to me with a lot of "thank yous" for showing him how the community is. Made me feel real good!
