Well worth the money and probably one of my favorite FF titles both story wise and from a gameplay standpoint.

Irony is, FFXII was meant to be a MMORPG originally, under Square's Millenieum Convention plans announced in early 1999 for the future of the FF series after FFIX to be online based, with XII following XI as a MMO. However the merger with Enix and the departure of FF creator Hironobu Sakaguchi from Square after the ambitious but extremely expensive Spirits Within FF movie went down as a box-office bomb, made them rethink those plans, and the early plans for FFXII were retooled as a single-player game (this is also why FFX's planned online functions were never implemented). This is reflected in FFXII's design in that it still plays very much like an offline MMORPG, with interconnected but open-world zones, quick travel via aetheryte-like telepoints, elite hunt enemies that would appear in zones under special circumstances, and a real-time battle system that definetely owed a lot to FFXI (but with more turn-based aspects thrown in).
So really, even if SE does release a new MMORPG (something that in the current climate is very very unlikely), it would be even less likely to be part of the Ivalice Alliance I'm sorry to say. FFXII is pretty much the closest you will get to an Ivalice-set MMORPG, other than the 'Return to Ivalice' raids here in FFXIV.

I kinda want to see one that’s more like FF7/FF8/FF13, I am getting a little sick of the kinda old/ medieval/ low tech stuff. If we ever go to garlemald, I’ll probably get my fix, though
Good lord, I forgot that I went to the cinema to see that film. To say a disappointment would be an understatement. Take away the , for the time, amazing CGI and what is left was what felt like an utterly rushed movie which needed the room the breathe as all final fantasy stories need. They made a film that had underlying FF lore and presented it as a western sci fi mild alien invasion thriller. No wonder it failed. The target audience wasnt FF fans, and the medium was too short to let a FF cinematic experience blossom
This was way before tv shows having the super status they have now but it would have been best made a 12 part TV show , if pitched to a studio in this side of the new millennium.

I think it's one of the first extensively fleshed out worlds in a FF. They're all reasonably deep, but usually for the purposes of a single title, however Ivalice rises to the level you'd see for some western RPG settings, like the Forgotten Realms. 14 is obviously more fleshed out now but it's also got a lot more to draw on. A game set in the Ivalice setting, with some of IX's quirky locations, like Cleyra or Oeilvert, would be a dream come true to me. Yoshi has said he'd like to do a pure fantasy setting if he had it his way, and given how well he works with Matsuno, I could see it happening one day. Ivalice also had pretty well fleshed out politicking and antagonists, which makes it even better.+1 for this. I always felt like Ivalice was one of the most stable, believable 'worlds' that Square ever created (I know it's technically in Eorzea, but it really doesn't feel like it at all). The War of the Lions was so substantial that you could either set the game during it, or just preceding it during Fifty Years War (which might be the better choice).
But, yeah - I'm all in. Especially if the PvP component is slightly more emphasized to reflect the conflicted nature of the setting.

And then some. They already have an avenue for a lot of high tech stuff via the Allagans and there is also the potential of other stars in the setting. We know Omega's homeworld is kaput, but there may be others. As you say, Garlemald will also cover that niche. I don't really have a problem with a fantasy sci fi/space fantasy, but if that happens, I'd like to see it be the main theme rather than a mish mash.
The problem with it in XIV is not that it is taking from XII, it is that it is primarily side content with a lot of narrative exposition, so it can feel a bit jarring at times. Nonetheless, the Ivalice raids remain my favourite so far. A fully fledged Ivalice setting would be a different matter. Now, I don't disagree that they could do a new setting - and probably would - but again Ivalice is a great model setting for a more fantasy-based MMO and I hope Yoshi would bring on Matsuno for some manner of joint project if they were to do it.By the Twelve and all other deities I would certainly hope not, would easily be a skip for me. XIV already rips way too much from Ivalice and it's one of the biggest issues I have with XIV as it is right now. Ideally the next MMO would be more of its own thing, as this one already kind of borrowed from XI a touch more than I'd like as well, let alone the superfluous Ivalice aspects.

Ah yes, DQX. This kind of variety is exactly what I'd like to see. If only it were available outside Japan...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Quest_X
So they already did do the MMO after XIV as something else.
Yeah, I was expecting, like, mini FF6 or FF7, and instead we got some garbo sci fi story. IMO, that was the beginning of a long downward spiral for the franchise.

Ugh, Spirits Within. It really failed at making something that felt FF like to me. They went far too tech heavy.
And if a hypothetical Ivalice borrowed more heavily on the Advance series than Tactics/XII in terms of aesthetics and such maybe it would be okay, but even that doesn’t seem like a solution honestly. It just doesn’t make for an appealing setting really. The issue with XIV is how heavily they borrow and how cut/paste it is. To the point it’s even pushed its way into another legion.
