it's not something people like to hear when said, so i avoid talking about it.
But the part you'd be interested in, is that there definitely are just as many varied ways of healing/tanking, as there are ways to DPS. They will always be 1:1 equal. For every method there is to deal with an enemies Hp offensively, there is an equal opposite way to deal with saving your own HP defensively.
But the #1 thing preventing the unique ways to heal/tank, require people to let go of cliche builds/stereotypes. (And no, I dont simply just mean something as basic as melee healers, or melee casters. Though, that line of thinking is what got me going down this rabbit hole.)

But yeah, I can try to help you see where this is going. Games can be simplified down to just "Kill it, before it kills me". As well as simplified to "Survive until times up". Which both equate "Do XYZ, until time is up". There is both push and pull in MMOs/RPGs. Which is why you see hp bars pingpong back and forth, and why healers are even a role in the game. Focus on the concept of this core gameplay, and you should realize where this is all going. (Along with all the unique ways to heal)

    Mascot. >w>
Your weapon is a Mascot suit that covers your whole character.
It specializes on cheering your party to buff them and mocking your enemies to debuff them.
It uses a doll to DPS with.

Some people like to talk about going classless, but that kinds takes away from useful limitations in game play and role fantasy. Within that system, thought, there are lots of possibilities, like a tank taking health from allies while a healer takes it from enemies to heal herself and the damage dealers. Just depends on where you point your imagination. You can have characters avoid damage by eating carrots. It kind of depends of what gives players fulfillment when they press buttons.

I would never suggest such a thing. Having EVERY option, actually takes away options.

Prior to Shadowbringers, I was actually hoping Geomancer would be our first Caster Tank... I still want that though that would probably take till 7.0 at the minimum, assuming we get that far.

I also strongly prefer the concept of an Apothecary over Chemist. Chemist dances very close to the line of Alchemist and could be confusing to players who are new to Final Fantasy. Apothecary would differentiate itself further from the concept.

I would also love to see a musical healer. It's kinda pointless to expect the Bard to become a music-focused job at this point, but having something like "Melodist," "Flautist," or "Songster/Songstress" who heals through music would be my most wanted, personally.

It will be Geomancer, theyve been setting it up so hard in the Astro Story line it cant be anything other than that.

If it's not, they'll likely pull from FFT:A2, as every job weve ever gotten has been a Tactics based Job.

Exactly. Structure gives purpose through limitation, but the structure itself is pretty open to whatever people find rewarding.

Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.

If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your next exciting adventure healer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.

I was hoping either RDM or BLU would be the caster tank back in the day. (depending on how they handled it of course) But I doubt SE would ever make one. Instead we have PLD becoming a more "Spell Blade" style tank, and thats probably SEs idea for a melee mage, so I doubt we'll ever see one.

The next job will definitely be healer. Squeenix has set the stage by homogenizing the current three (almost to the point of killing their identities, especially AST). But I honestly fear for what that fourth healer will be. If they try to make it appealing, they're going to destroy at least one of the current heal jobs.

I'd start believing what when they wrap their swords with magic for all their attacks.
