Hmm wouldn't a random player inspect or a chatlink do the trick? It's a bit messy but you can click your way through to "dye preview".

I guess they did it to avoid the looooooooong line of clothes or need to do few different tabs (as they did for Anemos iirc). Probably thought that new, more compact system is better. It surely is in some aspects (like not having to scroll trought all those tabs and endless lists), but not very convenient in terms of preview indeed. Wouldn't be an issue if we had a centralized preview menu, where we could try and check every clothes existing in the game, but we don't have one, sadly.
I am glad SE took a risk with this move, forcing more of the community into midcore content is not s bad thing for a game in the long run. Ease the community into slightly more difficult content will allow the dev team to try new things without worry so much about the difficulty.

Easing the community into such content would need to include something like Hard Mode Trials, though—a solid stepping stone in terms of difficulty toward taking on the more difficult, Extreme versions. Those existed for the 2.1 Extreme trials. Now that we only really get "story" difficulty versions of such fights, there's not a good way to ease players into Extreme versions anymore. By and large, locking previously casual glamour gear behind an Extreme trial is just going to mean fewer people have that gear, not that a significantly larger numbers of players partake in Extreme content.I am glad SE took a risk with this move, forcing more of the community into midcore content is not s bad thing for a game in the long run. I like the first step, really interested in where this story is going. Enjoyed the solo instance a lot.
And very glad that I don't need to do Eureka or anything similar for the dyeable armor. Said it before but Eureka literally lost my interest within an hour, and even after hearing it improved later, I'm still not exactly looking forward to whatever psuedo-Eureka they might be cooking up for later.

this right here, I resubbed to do relic so while not happy with the little I have to do from that, finding out that the dyeable AF gear I've been waiting for is locked behind an EX that I have to pug is what really left the sour taste in my mouth. I've pugged EX content before, got a few Titania weapons and have done previous EXs when relevant, but I don't enjoy doing them enough to really be happy that they locked the iconic job gear behind anything that isn't a casual grind.I find the idea of dyable glamor gear locked behind an extreme trial to be quite lame.
It's not the encounter I'm afraid of, I raided savage in the past, so it will be easy to me.
However, doing such things w/o a static group is a hell in itself. I won't touch party finder with a 10 foot pole when it comes to content that can actually kill you.

I don't mind the first step being fairly short if there isn't interesting content in place to actually do to instead of what the alternative has been.
Like if we had to do what we did in Heavensward to even start, which for those who weren't around for the Anima weapon, was grinding three crystals with awful drop rates from fates in every Heavensward zone (this took like 12 hours) and then having to do a synched run of every dungeon from A Realm Reborn 2.4 through to the level 60 Heavensward dungeons. It was the definition of busy work.
While I certainly have my complaints about Eureka Anemos as well (the grind for the weapon there was considerable), at least it was novel content at the time.
Didn't the first Eureka step take longer and was basically the same but worse?Like if we had to do what we did in Heavensward to even start, which for those who weren't around for the Anima weapon, was grinding three crystals with awful drop rates from fates in every Heavensward zone (this took like 12 hours) and then having to do a synched run of every dungeon from A Realm Reborn 2.4 through to the level 60 Heavensward dungeons. My thoughts on relics:
Battle relics:
- I like the story. I was rather upset that as a GNB I didn't get some slightly different options to choose from. It's like the fact I trained with a member of the royal guard didn't matter.
- I like the first weapon was free for doing the quest.
- while I enjoy the simple grind and giving me something to do with poetics again, it does feel a little easy at the moment. I do believe the grind will be either longer or more difficult later.
- The Gear being locked behind a EX trial only is, while different, something I wouldn't expect. It's not very player friendly to get though that on most servers with how party finders tend to be but if you have people you know that can go, could be easy. I haven't done it yet so I don't fully know how hard it is. It just seems really odd.
Crafting Relics:
- Straight forward and simple. grind through yellow script and HQ crafts you can macro through. Getting yellow script through custom deliveries is a bonus. really love these.
Gathering relics:
This is whee I have the most negative comments on. The grind is insanely long for an opening step. IT's certainly not on par with the opening step of the other two types. maybe it's on par with beginning steps for other relics but I'm not certain. I've done relics in HW and SB. maybe it's in line with ARR I don't know. I think the difficulty is rather steep in items needed with how hard it is to get HQ amount. Seems a little awkward and really the only one that is a true grind at the moment.

I think that the idea for progressing relic this way is good. Providing that level of story through and through is definitely a hook, but when we merely stop after obtaining the relic, well...the content doesn't age well. Generally I would've expected another step to actually ENHANCE the weapon so it's an in-between between Tome Weapon and Edenchoir Weapon, but it isn't; it's merely better than Ruby Weapon for the 300 substat in most cases.
As for all the complaints about the AF Gear being locked behind EX, I'm wanting to believe that it's the majority that don't even have an interest in EX in the first place. Extremes take time to learn, so invest in it if you actually want the equipment since the DPS Check is actually not as bad as you think.
