So I was thinking, if increasing the item limit like we've been howling for would be too difficult... why not make it easier to block off parts of the house, or partition in general, instead?

I'm thinking specifically for a medium here (so not entirely sure how to make this work with a large's central staircase), but basically the idea would be to have two items. One would be for the downstairs and one for the up.

For the downstairs, it would be a floor extension. You drop it down and it perfectly fills that gap (covering railing and all) that leads to the downstairs. It's actual floor so any floor items can go on it without any problems, and you can apply whatever floor pattern you want for it. So if you wanted a section of tile or stone for a kitchen perhaps, you could do that without it affecting the rest of the flooring. And it would free up that space very nicely for use in designs. Like if someone wanted an extra large kitchen, or a downstairs master suite, or whatever.

For the upstairs, you would have something similar in wall form. It would completely hide the stairway, gap underneath, and banister without cutting off an extra foot or two of space trying to deal with partitions. It can hold whatever wallpaper or paint is wanted and unless you're in decorating mode you can't tell there's even a stairway there.

Branching off this idea, you could have a similar setup for hiding pillars with walls that take any wallpaper and are dyeable. You could also have prebuilt rooms along a similar theme.

I think for the walling things off, or pillar removal, that might work best as an optional interior feature in the same way floors, walls, and lights are set up. You activate it by adding the item to the slot, and can dye it from there any color you want. To add flooring or wall patterns, they're interactable so you just click on them to apply the specific pattern wanted.

For the pre-built rooms, those are actual furnishings, and count against your slots, but you can drop one down wherever you like and it will superimpose itself over the current walls and floor for whatever size it is. These would be simple squares and rectangles of various sizes, but if you add a door to it the door will slot through the wall without blocking anything off, and the same for windows. You could even have Emperor's arches if you wanted to create an open dining room or something. If you wanted to get really fancy you could also have the external and internal wall able to be done with different colors or wallpaper.

Heck, we could even have rooms with built in lofts or stairs for the smaller races to work with. The possibilities with this are endless and would add a whole new level of customization.

I grant, this setup isn't exactly peel and stick either, but it would radically cut down on the amount of slots we use decorating with partitions and would solve a whole lot of some of the more often asked for things and general frustration people have.

For m+kb it could be an up and down arrow right between place and rotate, and for Gamepad I could see it as Right Trigger/Button up Left Trigger/Button Down.
After spending four hours tonight trying to do the mental gymnastic necessary to set up my apartment via the float glitch, I definitely second this. I kinda feel like SE is taking a 'well the community figured out how to do it, so it's not our problem' sort of approach to this. Which is all well and good but half the time you practically need detailed diagrams and a lot of luck, or actual housing, to even get the glitches to play nice with each other. One wrong move and suddenly everything snaps back to the floor and you're left screaming into the void as hours of work just disappear. Having a dedicated elevation tool would help alleviate so much stress.

    As for personal suggestions..

-Treat all furniture as if it's a tabletop item when it interacts with the wooden loft. Half the glitch frustrations wouldn't even be an issue if this happened

-A fridge item, since currently it can take anywhere from 2-5 items to make one via item combinations.

-More interior lighting options with more colors available for the lights. The crystal chandeliers are my favorite lights in this game purely because they cast blue and purple light instead of the default yellow, and I'd love to see more lighting options offer a variety of colors. Like green, seriously SE, where is my green light?

-The option to change ceiling colors.

-Higher pixel version of the Steppe Bed. I kinda feel bad for whomever submitted that entry for the contest because SE did them dirty with it's implementation. Not only is it tiny but it's pixelated worse than Hien's Mogstation outfit. At least up the resolution for the fur, as it's the part that stands out the most due to it's low quality.

-More aquatic items. I've been itching to make a sea scape room for awhile now but there's just not enough out there to make it a reality yet. I'd love a shell bed or for SE to finally implement that floor aquarium that won a spot in the last design contest.

-A counter top table that matches the height of the Southern Kitchen. None of them do except the bar and it's irksome.

    Increase housing item limits.
200 items is hardly enough for small if you were wanting to actually build something that involves the entire house + being unique & well done. With 200 in a small, there will always be something lacking & limiting. Increasing the item cap amount by a significant portion would give players a chance to enjoy others designer homes as well as for the decorators, not feel bound & punished to such a low limit.
I think increasing housing item limits would help quell some of the demand for more medium & large houses as well. I know many people seeking a Medium or Large house just for the item limit.
I do think that the item limit needs to be increased by 75-100. So, small would then be 275 or 300. Medium would be 375 or 400 & large would be 475 or 500.

Can we get a button that resets everything in our home? I hate to individually take things down one by one if I wanna remodel the interior.

An option to make summoning bells and vendors open to anyone. Off by default, like teleportation or home access.

    Adventurer Tent

While waiting for Upgraded Apartments, or additional Housing Districts and Wards. Why not have a Tent, the setting up action of which would be just like the firmament parasol.

    - can be set-up anywhere in the open world.
    - tent area automatically becomes sanctuary.
    - comes with:
    - a grand company style utility cot inside the tent.
    - shaded space for a chocobo mount.
    - bonfire for cooking.

Honestly, I would just love to have partitions and panels available in all of the wallpaper styles, instead of just flat panel that we can dye multiple colors. It'd be nice to be able to mimic stone walls, etc.

There are Blank Riviera, Blank Hingan, Blank Glade and Blank Oasis Partitions available at the Housing Merchants and Estate Servants for 9,000 gil each. You can apply your choice of wallpapers to them. Keep in mind that changing a wallpaper on a Blank Partition will replace and destroy the previous wallpaper instead of returning it to your inventory like the Remodel Interior will.

Plus, you have to apply wallpaper to each partition individually.
