Mogstation taking another step to the darkside

This isn't new they've been doing it for quite some time. I would have less of an issue with many of their items (emotes, outfits etc) if they were account wide but pricing on mounts is pretty high in my view even though many are in fact account wide.

They've been offering us a seasonal mount in game for many events, with an option to buy it later if you had missed the event and like the item.
This time instead of introducing an unrelated mount they introduce a seasonally appropriate mount, and don't put it in to the seasonal event at all.

We really don't need this post every time the mogstation gets an update. Either buy it or don't, gameplay won't change if you have this mount or don't.

I agree with this most of the time, this particular case is pretty egregious.

We have to be careful with these seemingly "innocent/harmless" micro transactions, which are usually cosmetics. Cash Shop will over time incentivize the developers to dull the base game in order to drive Cash Shop sales.

This is a slippery slope fallacy. The Mogstation has been around for six years and nothing has changed. At best, you could argue they got a bit too greedy with the emotes but it still didn't impact the actual meat that is our patch cycles.

Would this be okay if it was released in the summer? I don’t really get the uproar over the timing...we are getting a full glam and a half as well as the usual trimmings of furniture and stuff. Even if someone doesn’t like the glam, I wouldn’t say the rewards are lacking. Have we had an event in the past that wasn’t a collab that had glam and furniture and a mount? Genuine question as my only frame of reference is the last two years, and my memory is spotty at best.

In ages past, there was once an Eorzea without a Mogstation. In fact, Fantasias were given to you as a reward. Yet the citizens and adventurers cried to their gods claiming they would pay 5, 10, 15, 20 dollars to be able to buy stuff like fantasia and such. There were those that resisted this cry and were against those wanting this false god. This mog station. Unfortunately they were outnumber and the few that resisted were squashed like the Ala Mhigan's and thus ushering an era of the mog station in all its infinite glory. Gone are the times you obtain items with sweat and blood.

Seriously, I am bored at work. However people asked for a mog station way back and SE delivered. It is what it is. I bought a handful of emotes with some extra money I had but I do wish they made them account-wide but alas, its a business and they have to maximize profits.

I don't particularly like the mogstation items on multiple levels. It's less returning items for events, the prices are high (imo) and this stuff eats up space on our devices regardless of our access to it. What's worse is the feeling of being left out without buying into it. ex: Everyone using their /toast emotes when you can't join in without forking over $7. In particular this time though is the absolutely poor timing of releasing cash shop items during current issues. The marketing dept really knows how to read the room.

Even if it is a slippery slope fallacy, there is always the risk that it won't be at some point in the future.

This new Mog Station item is a good example. They would have perhaps offered it in the event itself if there was no Cash Shop.

I think the accepted subscription cost for MMOs may be too low right now, which forces MMOs to invest more and more in Micro Transaction practices to ensure their profit. Problem is, price of MMO sub has stayed the same for a very long time while people seem not get ready to pay more for sub, despite inflation.

If it is a slippery slope fallacy right now, I think it won't be in future.

The one problem that we dont know who bought it and who gained it from event.
Also we dont even have mount collection in game and SE waiting our money to invest them into FF7 ep2.
