I like threads like these, they remind me to walk into my personal house once every month to not lose it. FC house is so much more useful. While I despise the system, I do feel it's needed though. But I do think SE is pushing a lot of the blame on the playerbase due to their awful implementation. I'm sure it sounded wonderful on paper, but look where we are now, and look how dead the neighborhoods are. On Crystal you practically have to schedule events to even see one other soul now. I've lost 2 other houses to it (got another 2 now, FC and Personal), and while I kick myself for losing it, I'm fully against deleting your items flat out after 30 days though. Data storage is dirt cheap, so yes, they should hold onto the items for a player when and if they return. The cost is so stupidly low. I'd still like to see them eventually introduce instanced housing, something that would be a tiny little zone just for you. Imagine being able to change the zone you're in, say, having a floating house in the Sea of Clouds like the Sky Pirates? Just wish personal housing wasn't so useless unlike FC housing. Mine rots now.

I think it's more of a problem of your items being stored on that specific lot, so storing your items indefinitely would only work if you got that exact plot back.

The problems is not the "sleeping" storage (HardDisk or Flash Disk) but dynamic memory (RAM). RAM is far more expensive. They need to load all the gardens for each ward. For these reasons, wards are probably some kind of persistent instance when instancied housing is active only when a player is in (and it needs pretty less dynamic memory since it is only one house).

Wards are some kind of Eureka were is need to load several indivdual gardens datas additionaly. It is pretty heavy for dynamic memory.
