If it wasn't time gated, players would rush through it. A good portion of the content in the game is time gated to keep players occupied while they work on other ideas, content in the mean time. It's an MMO for a reason, work your way there.

There is a really simple reason for the time gate and that is future proofing the content. In a few months there will be way less people doing doing this, so making set times will filter those still playing it together otherwise we would end up with near empty fishing boats
You can burn through this content in one trip if all you want is the pet and mount. You just have to be lucky. Anything else will take longer simply because its not easy to get 500k points. Even having it each hour wont change it.
I just dont see how that timer makes it more enjoyable.
Players still can rush it if they are lucky. Its pure RNG how long it will take to do this content and who knows how active it will stay. Maybe instead of making a content long lived by gating it they could have just given it more content. More to gather, more to get out of it. Without the frustration of the gate and the pure amount of luck you need.

Oh wow, this thread...
Raise your hand if you're playing this game because you want a "realistic life experience".
Squeenix did not think this through, either that or they're time gating on purpose because the longer it takes to do things the more money they make.
There's no need to have this silly two hour timer, other wise you might as well just put the ferries and airships on timers too.
I played FFXI, I remember mechanics like that. They sucked back then and they suck now.
The timer is fine, the problem to me is there's no reason to do it after you get the minion and mount. Would have been nice if they made it so you get a certain amount of a currency doing it, working towards exclusive rewards or you got more rewards by catching certain rare fish. Have it so you get rewarded for just doing it, as well as getting lucky.

There is no cap as far as I am aware. You may be making the same mistake I made at first and trying to register early. You cannot register until it actually is time for the boat to leave and the ! marker appears. Talk to her before that and she gives a message that seems to imply it's full but is really just the "you're too early" message.
There is no cap, more instances will spawn for 15 minutes but of course the last instance that spawns could have less people in it thus less people to spawn the rainbows or to get the buffs.
Honestly I would probably be fine with a two hour timer or even a longer one if it has less RNG..knowing that others have done it once and through luck got everything while I have tried for nearly all runs (other than the ones deep into the night) and done everything I can but its still not enough. Nothing worse than either having not a single spectral even though people even ask what to use and try to spawn it, or have it spawn on the first round only to never appear again..
I also understand now why people leave. I do stay because even if I dont get anything out of it (and yellow scrips are so much that I dont care for that either) I might still help others but it really demotivates me knowing that it can take a long time just out of pure luck..even big fishing never annoyed me like that..
Why even have all the gates? Why even have the pet and the mount? In the end this is just normal fishing but on a boat. The same cutscenes all the time and nothing much happens. And thanks to the timer and the need to get as many points as possible (not only for yourself but also to help with the group) you dont have time to enjoy the view or talk to each other. Have it just be here as an new option for fishers to get new fish. With a longer timer, some random events and no points. Just something you might do from time to time.
If you wanted to include a pet and a mount then make the pet something that you can catch and the mount the reward for catching all the fish there.
It'd be cool if that was the reward for higher rank FCs, if they could do their own FC version of ocean fishing (maybe spend seals or something to purchase a voyage?)
I think they want to lengthen the content on purpose.
On the other hand, Fisher must be used to that kind of "activity".
I mean, all you are doing is standing at the same spot for hours.
So, waiting 90 min for the next ship can't be that big of a problem
Just kidding![]()
Thank you, i feel crazy reading these comments. If the issue it would be dead in a couple of weeks, the solution is for SE to give more rewards towards it. This worked great with eureka and restoration, why not implement it here? releasing this with really two real loot is odd. Oh well i guess.Oh wow, this thread...
