The timer for ocean fishing is ridiculous!

One main reason, balance.
Second reason? So you dont spend 48 hours after patch doing it all the time and suddenly you never need to do it again. Ocean Fishing in its current state is a framework, the devs dont want you burning out on it before they've added anything interesting to it down the line.

In a living virtual world, you can't do whatever you want whenever you want.

It is supposed to mimic a "real" world in some way, and it's perfectly normal that some activities can only be done at specific times.

The game world isn't only built around your character like in a solo game.

Agreed. Every 2 hours is a few in-game days, that basically simulates a ship leaving every few in-game days. Its not like you can turn up to a port IRL and expect to be taken out fishing on the spot simply because you want to, things like trips out to sea take time.
That being said, i would of preferred if the ship actually MOVED rather than just being an instance, as that means it would have more of a gameplay reason to be timed outside of balance.

Do we own the boat we go fishing in in-game? are we able to prepare provisions and plan a route in a single instant as soon as we decide we want to go fishing? Is this hypothetical own boat open to the public to jump on and join you?

If it wasn't time limited, the ammount of players doing it would dry up too quickly, everyone would finish with it in a few days and never do it again, leaving those who want to do it weeks from now with nobody to do it, and thus the mount out of their reach.

Except I'm already burned out on it having done it for 3 days and no mount because of a completely rng based system.

What ever I will just say this last note to you then. "You can do anything at any time for as long as you desire regardless of what time of day/time it is."

Now thats done dismissing a white knight.

What they should have done is made you have to pay gil to ride the boat where you could set your own time limit and stay time based on the amount of gil you paid the for the ride.

so 10k would buy you 10mins or so


100k would buy you an hour

1mill would buy you 5 hours

This would give them a real gil sink they want people to spend gil and this would have been the best way for everyone and everything.

Also when it comes to boats In real life you can go boat fishing at anytime as long as you get your own boat(Which honestly they should have added personal boats already for this kind of thing)
