The original OP of the post was is it faster. WoW is faster, also a little more entertaining with Mythic+ and higher tier raiding.
I disagree on it looking terrible. Yes the engine is dated but it is not as old looking as it once was. It's actually holding out quite well for the time we're in, look wise.
4 button rotation, is no different than some jobs in FF14 5 or 6 button rotation with filler 30s. Much the same like WoW.
Speed does matter, to some. It does to me considerably. FF14 is slow, like really really slow. Generally 2.4+ GCDs for BIS for most jobs compared to WoWs 1s GCD. That feels way more fluid, even if you're pressing 4 buttons, it feels incredibly better.
Still, WoW is not archaic garbage considering it's still one of the top MMOs still around, which stands for something. I only talked about positives because what you pointed out as in negatives, are actually positives in my opinion. I don't recommend people play FF14 for anything outside of story as much as I recommend WoW for anything but story.
Alas I play both and pay a subscription to both for their end game.... FF14's end game is quite...... lackluster, would be the better word. I'm enjoying the story though, which is why I'm still sticking around.
Anyways back on point to the original OP post, WoW is way way faster than FF14.
Your friendly neighborhood gamer.
The problem is that these people played WoW for probably a few days, never touched endgame and didnt even try Mythic plus if they did, so it has to be bad cuz FFXIV is good. This can't possibly be all up to preference. The original OP of the post was is it faster. WoW is faster, also a little more entertaining with Mythic+ and higher tier raiding.

It is not only about the engine. WoW has a very ugly character design that looks as creepy as the UT99 models. I play many MS-DOS games and there are games that age good, and games that don't. WoW is one of those that give me the creeps like many N64 games. And no, it does not hold quite well, you are just adjusted to it and the environment. That is fine. In our public library, there is still a Win3.11 computer because there is no need to change the system - but that does not mean there are no new, better, faster systems.
The second portion is the same: Just because there is no WoW II, that's all. WoW created a massive wave of addicts with endless talkshows and documentaries in the mid-to-late 2000s, and that is coming from somewhere and won't go simply away. Like smoking. You can show people the negative effects - still there are hundres of millions of smokers. Also, if Blizzard is so good with their design directions, why would they have a "classic" version? Looks like neither direction of the game went so well eventually.
The gameplay of FFXIV is really not quick and it often like a choreography or a Japanese game show - be on Spot X when the annoying music and the blinking light stops, else... But I think it's quite the point of its path.
To the rest: Do not give the angry pub brawler with the Moogle mask more beer and snacks. He might be less angry when the game is translated in Spanish. . .
Sincerely,
