I don't think the corpse was ever animated. It was more of a Fight Club thing, where the stone's Dark Knight souls interacted with your id, making you functionally multiple personalitied. Nobody else ever saw Fray after he died, the corpse never left it's location in the Brume. Except for maybe the last fight which could have been some sort of aetheric solidification. I'm unclear on whether the Ishgardians saw anything there or if they just watched you kick yourown ass.

Wasn't Dark Knight class started by vampires because it sure has a lot of drain and blood skills to it like a vampire would use in combat. Vampires has been in bunch of final fantasy games same with werewolfs so there not out of place here. Final fantasy II believe had vampires that was party gave part of main story to it. We don't need anymore new player races added till make new ones whole and not limited. Final fantasy II way old than any elder scrolls game. So can quit using it as way to say no to them and that don't belong here.

I really wish people would quit saying to play TESO. I don't like that game at all.

Outside of my love for Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla, I think I'd just enjoy something like this to have fangs as a Viera. It's the one thing I miss from being a Keeper of the Moon.

Unless you want to spend all day hiding indoors or sleeping in coffins as a vampire only able to play at night, no.

Unless you want to lose control of your character for 3 nights out of every "month" of in-game time as a werewolf, no.

Those traits only belong on NPCs.
The mythology of vampires and werewolves is hundreds of years old, and interpretation varies greatly in fiction. None of these are things that HAVE to be implemented. It's not like the FFXIV version of Lakshmi has much in common with the Hindu goddess.

Yeah, I couldn't get into TESO either. I was disappointed with the faction system and how muted the Altmer were. That aside, you brought up an excellent point in regards to mythology. FFXIV could easily tap into the stories surrounding vampires and werewolves to bring us something pretty satisfying. I'm led to believe that the Castlevania games are Japanese, so that could be somewhere to draw inspiration from.

    /10chars, woo.

At the level 50 quest, it clearly shows Fray's corpse being discarded, and they talk about burying "your friend" afterwards. So clearly the body was there at that point. Before that, it's left ambiguous, at least in English. I remember reading that it's different in Japanese, but I can't find the link right now.

Heck yea brother. I'm sure there's a lot of no fun stinkers in this thread crying about the very thought of being a sexy blood sucking monster, but I welcome it with open arms in any MMO. Even this one, where the only vampire monsters I've managed to find are vampire trees on the First.

I could support a vampire race if it's a race of vampiric plants.

To be fair vampires did show up in FFXI, although they were just glorified ugly demons with fangs (and that gaoler in the dungeons under the Chateau in San d'Oria who everyone thought was a vampire, because he stayed in the darkness of the underground gaol and kept asking for blood from beastmen, but it turns out he just had a nasty skin disease like psorasis that sunlight made worse and which the blood acted as an ointment).

And werewolves have appeared in FFV and VI too (specifically a npc thief rather unimaginatively named 'Lone Wolf), although the lupin would clearly be their counterparts here in FFXIV.

But I doubt Theo that you will see them and their lycanphropic enemies as player races here I'm afraid - the (admittedly tacky) Halloween vampire and werewolf costumes would probably be the closest you would get to that.
