Don't care, it's just garbage mobs. If SE really felt the encounter was special enough to want to preserve the solo experience, they would make it an instanced fight.

I was doing the Pixie quest for spawning a mob the other day, and I started fighting it, some rando showed up and started attacking it, so I stopped and let them do it. Then my quest was finished and theirs wasn't, so they had to spawn theirs and do it again. Serves them right. I didn't need help.

If it was meant to only be completed by a solo player, the game would probably prevent people from interfering. I usually tend to help other players with their tasks as that's a core part of the MMO experience for me. The only thing that I get hung up on is whether the player I'm helping wants a level 80 coming along and erasing their target instantly. Usually people are thankful, but you never know before hand.

This whole subject is one of the reasons why I'd like to see leveling removed from RPG's entirely. There wouldn't be as much of an issue if the power gap between players wasn't literally 100's or 1000's of times in scale.

I always help kill spawned mobs after mine go down because its an MMO and I think I am being nice to other members of the community.

imo you don't like help from other ppl either wait til there is no one around so you can pull it off the side and do your thing, or switch to a single player game.

In an mmo mobs should not be restricted to a single player, it was nonsensical in ffxi and it would be here too.

'Helping' someone whether they want you to or not is somehow better than not wanting people to help you? Why not wait for people to ask you to fight the mobs for them? Do you do other things to/with people without asking too?

Cause its an MMO and MMOs are, or used to be anyway, about community.

Some of the best things that used to happen in mmos is when a complete stranger would just help you for no reason other than just to be nice. Its how we made friends and connections in a game quite often.

Some of us still have that, I am going to help you just cause, mentality because that was a staple in the old mmos. If you really want that solo experience, go play a solo game. But when you come into a game with hundreds of thousands of other people don't get your undies in a twist just because someone dares to be....nice....for no reason

All the time, even irl, because I am a decent human being, so holding doors, picking up something for someone who dropped something, making room for someone to sit. Volunteering, Picking up shifts without being asked cause someone has an event, I do all these things just cause its the decent thing to do. Seriously, getting upset over someone simply being nice to you is about as ridiculous as it can be.

That's not what's happening though. People are upset over the lack of challenge. There's definitely a difference between fighting a spawn on your own, or having multiple others attack it as well.

I think the only solution for this in FF14 would be a setting to allow other players to attack your MSQ mobs. If you choose to prevent other players from assisting, your spawns should be marked as unattackable, or maybe just be appear faded and untargetable for others.

Then the solution is to turn UP the difficulty, not lock other players out. Its an MMO, community interaction should be a boon not the bane and if your game is so simple that 1 random person helping you renders it so trivial it ruins the experience, then that just means that the experience needs to change, not the people.

This oversimplifies a few things. Firstly an MMO doesn't have to give up a single player experience entirely. I personally think everything should be approachable from a cooperative standpoint but if a player seeks a solo challenge, that isn't at odds with MMO design. Secondly it's more than a case of just 1 random player showing up, as with newly released quests there can be many more people around. Level disparity also plays a role as no amount of difficulty is going to balance a level 50 fight to a level 80 character. The difference in stats is so great that if the level 80 isn't able to trivialize the fight, then a level 50 might as well not even bother.

The only simple answer I see is just letting people isolate themselves. I'm sure it would only be a minority doing this anyway. There are some other ways around the problem, but they involve change the structure of the game. That's not something I find necessarily unwelcome, but it seems excessive just for this issue.

That's why they have instanced fights and we get them and ppl then complain they have to do it solo and its too hard. Even with this super easy solo fight we had at the end of 5.1 there were ppl complaining of difficulty... There is just no winning.
