    Would you welcome solo extremes?

    A thought occurred to me with the NG+ coming is if they used it to also implement EX versions of solo instances. I doubt it will ever happen, but was thinking it would be pretty cool for those who want a little more challenge from these kind of duties.

    Honestly, I've failed a lot of them already before figuring out what it was exactly I needed to do. That's a different kind of challenge though. I'm thinking instances that actually push your resources to the limits.

    Are there any solo instances in the game already you would consider to be a bit more on the EX side of things? I know one I had a lot of trouble with was the SAM 60 quest. It didn't take long for me to figure out that Musosai sensei was not messing around, at all. But I really enjoyed fights like that because it really had me using up all of my hotbar to get through the thing.

    Also, Red Chocobo EX doesn't count!

    I would gladly welcome a set of job or role-specific EX or Savage level solo duties and lock the mentor status behind their completion.

    the problem is, if the solo instances are anything to go by, there are only SO MANY mechanics you can do as 1 person. So if you wanted solo EX's to be challenging mechanically, I doubt that would happen.

    However, I would advocate a combination of solo Ex and SSS dummies (HP scaled to role). In other words, a solo duty with a hard enrage and semi-complex mechanics. I think this would teach people how to optimize their class while dealing with mechanics in real time, which is basically a necessity in savage. In most non-savage content, its perfectly okay to stop DPSing and just resolve the mechanics (even if you could be DPSing) and not hit enrage. I would want this duty to challenge people to both do damage and deal with mechanics.

    I'm not sure how this would work.

    I mean extreme trials are not so much different from normal. In EX you just have a different attack, mechanic, add, etc pattern and you must follow very basic mechanics.
    And well it's the same for savage just with more mechanics and a deeper focus on teamwork and job understanding (correct execution of rotations and CD's).

    For those 'solo' duties you are alone, the majority of mechanics are for group work. Can't really make something like have multiple puddles spawn where people need to run trough in order since you're alone.
    A 'jail' type mechanic could work where you have to free an NPC but I would hardly call that "extreme" because there's not much other stuff going and well again you're alone. They can't just dump 10 mechanics at once at you.

    I'm just failing to see how they can make it 'hard' or extreme. I never had any issue with MSQ, I breeze trough all of them never was stuck or had to google something. But I did heard from some other people and here on the forums that some people where stuck sometimes, and then there is the majority of the community who want to have handhelding and get carried trough everything and it would be 'stupid' to spend dev resources.

    In the end we have savage & ultimate for the 10% of the community who want to do harder stuff.

    I'm not really against it but I fail to see how they can make ex for solo content. And then it also needs to be accepted by the community, NG+ is something a lot of people want and so it must be accessible to all forms of gamestyle and different skil levels of individuals and was also made for the masses, while savage and ultimate for example is made specifically for the players who want 'hard' content.
    And also how much I love to do hard content, not everything has to be ... hard?

    I would like to see solo extremes.

    But with the current combat system it wouldnt be fun. FFXIV is too much based on the traditional tab targeting holy trinity. It would work for action combat or without depending on healers and tanks.

    To be honest, we actually got solo extremes already. You can fight with or as an NPC in a scriptable fight with a few mechanic. But for me, those are not really fun to me.

    A combination of a tight dps check and difficult mechanics would make it very hard for most players. A lot of players don't really understand the concept of maximizing uptime and/or CPM and how important it is. Nor do a lot of players have their rotation exactly right but believe they're doing fine, a side effect of having no parsers to check or compare to and very easy Normal mode content.

    While the idea of dodging scripted mechanics while doing your rotation seems basic to a good Savage player, you only have to look at E4N or EX "farm" groups to see it's very different for the majority.

    I'd be all for it anyway. I enjoyed the Endless Proving Ground and Mage Tower in WoW. Something like a hard solo trial tailored to each role/class with a glamour weapon and a title reward would be nice.

    Surely it should all be original content so "jail mechanisms" wouldn't be included.

    For solo extreme fights, the content is catered towards the job and their actions.
    Ex.
    I main monk so I'd imagine the Monk solo content would at the heart be a dps check but force you to switch stances.
    Include a run corrider section that requires fists of wind to out pace environment aoes.
    A dps check but with fists of earth to mitigate constant damage.
    With points to recover and optimise through out.

    The scholar Solo Ex content will be completely different and focus on challenging the player with actions at their disposal.

    Difficult solo instances would be difficult because unlike ffxi which had these (job specific fight against Maat for lv 70 cap), FFXIV jobs don't have as many tools at their disposal, so you'd have to make a different version for each role/job. Some jobs have more self healing than others

    Only way I could see it happen is with a Rathalos-type of fight or like Bardam in Bardam's Mettle. Would be too hard to tune a normal fight for all the jobs.
